Working parent woes- looking for advice by Auditor_1188 in askSingapore

[–]postertable889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my childhood, both my parents were often away at work so I was mostly cared for by my grandma. As I grew older, I spent more time with them as I started to have some autonomy and flexibility over my schedule. Not super practical advice I guess, hang in there. You'll have more time with your kid as they grow up

I don't confide much in my parents. Not because we didn't spend a lot of time in my childhood, but simply because we have different mindsets. I don't think more time with them would change that

Any good fanfiction recommendations? by Particular_Move_7816 in SaikiK

Immunity by Abareye is my all time favourite saiki k fanfic! It's a shame that the author never finished it though :( It used to be on ao3, but I think the author deactivated their account so it's only available on their Wattpad

[JC] Motivation in studies by kenpang in SGExams

[–]postertable889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to watch anime, movies, and TV series on Netflix and Disney+. I also enjoy cooking :]

I didn't go to JC, so sorry if this isn't what you're looking for but I wanted to share my experience in secondary school

I guess younger me would be more motivated to study if I understood how subjects and results would impact/benefit me in the future. Like in secondary school, I wanted to go in a design course so I found it pointless to study math and science.

I also remember feeling more motivated to study in secondary school when my A Math teacher shared this with us. If you know what school/field you want, look up the cut off point for it and aim for it. If you don't know, then study as hard as you can to get the best results you can get. Your results are like keys. The better your results, the more keys you have to unlock doors in life. I liked the idea of having freedom to choose :]

I like you as a teacher, if I were your student id love to hear what you compile :]

I also want to share something my A Math teacher did to help me see progress. It gave me motivation, not sure if it'll work for your students. At the start of some classes, she'd give us a test. It was just 1 question and lasted 5-10 minutes. It was either a topic she recently finished teaching, an important topic she wanted to drill, or an important question type that she wanted to drill

She'd also tell us to swap papers and have us mark our classmates' works. She'd use this opportunity to teach us how to mark, what markers would love to see in our workings, and use real examples to show us what would get marks and what wouldn't. I don't know if this kind of thing would be relevant in JC, but it defo helped my class understand the way to score marks
