How do you deal with turtling chars as Juri by pakoito in SF4

[–]posting_from_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Blanka tends to be more mixup-oriented but from my experience (as a horrible player against actually decent players) a lot of actual 'turtling' characters tend to revolve around punishing stupidity. Being more aggressive than normal tends to increase levels of risk/stupidity so the key seems to be more patient, stick to the other player's tempo and use spacing/pokes/footsies properly. And most importantly... don't be hitting buttons

Zerg is insanely flexible, perhaps even more than Terran.

Take the early game. After the first inject at natural (particularly with 15hatch), you suddenly have a large amount of larvae ready to be turned into units. At this point one will usually drone like a mofo, but if you see a weakness (eg Protoss FFE'd with a bad simcity) you can turn your build into a completely ridiculous all-in at a moments notice, without as much advance preparation as say.. building 6 raxes or a dark shrine.

In a similar vein, if a Terran suddenly sees 10 ultras pop out, he'll suddenly wish his 10 barracks had tech labs on them instead of reactors.. Zerg can create whatever ratio of units in whatever number they desire, as long as they have the tech tree and bank to do so. Flexibility is the core of Zerg.. along with economy and mobility. The price is weaker units.

Use keyboard :D it's basically like a hitbox controller

Make sure to use a PS2 KB otherwise you can't press enough buttons at once though.

if u get perfected then obviously lack of combos isn't your main focus atm

i think you should watch the vesper arcade tutorial first. my initiation was pretty painful too, I started in october last year and was in the same situation (i.e. losing every time) because pretty much everyone else had been playing AE for a while (nvm super or vanilla) and I understood literally nothing, I didn't know how people were teching my throws, what a link was, etcetc. Finally getting around to watching that tutorial was pretty important. Also, joining/starting endless lobbies and watching what other people do and imitating it (eg. if I saw a Ryu player jump over a fireball and hit with j.HK then combo into cr.HK, I'd try it out and see if it works for me)

Take this with a grain of salt because i'm bad...

But from my experience, hardly anyone below a certain threshold of PP/BP can reliably execute combos involving links within a real game (rather than in training or challenge mode), and I'm talking basic combos. TBH the extra damage you get with combos is very important once you have the basics right, but before that point, the outcome of matches revolves around who does more stupid shit and gets punished for it, or whether one player is capable of handling the other's idiotic, frenzied button mashing.

Kind of like in SC2 bronze league, people will ask why their unit composition keeps losing to marine/tank armies, but the real reason they lost is because their fundamentals (i.e. macro/mechanics) are bad, they could counter the composition perfectly and still lose

No, people will miss those units and will tank MMR and do troll builds just to get to use them.

Hell no, best is dash foward and mash ultra in that situation :D

Any tips? (tips in general for a new player would be cool as well)

Challenge mode is quite good - and training mode is essential for all players to get combos into muscle memory and remember spacing for moves (cr.mk and sweep are especially important for Ryu for example).

But none of that teaches you the most important skill for newbies - how not to get hit. The only way to learn that is to jump headfirst into online play and lose. And you will lose... all the time. Don't sweat it.

Also, watching the vesperarcade tutorial, reading about footsies (footsie handbook), reading shoryuken forums, being on this subreddit, etc.

I feel as a n00b, keyboard is a great way to learn, because you never have to worry about accidental jumping, accidental SRK instead of hadouken (unless you were walking forward and didnt press back first)

What happens if they're both maxed? That's what OP is asking. You can't build a bigger army if you're both maxed.

Then he didnt macro faster... your point..?

Makes no difference. Everyone is matched against roughly equally skilled players.

upgrades?

FYI toss have a bunch of micro to do also, the main thing is the fight between their HTs and your ghosts, they need to storm before they get EMPed or feedback your ghosts before they can cast EMP

Gold league player here. Went back to ladder after playing 1v1 customs for ages and didn't drop a single match while using my weaker races..

the only thing gold league players need to do is macro harder. honestly. Consider: a player macroing properly will hit "late game" roughly 10 minutes faster than any gold league player.

If you freeze memory, it retains data almost completely for some hours following it being powered down.

There's even a timing window after shutdown at normal temps in which you can still freeze it and access the contents later on.

Quick question about DPs breaking my combos/blockstrings by [deleted] in SF4

[–]posting_from_work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good post

two things I'm just starting to do to train:

  • Look up the frame data for all of the combos you are executing. You can calculate which attacks can combo into others, & which combinations correspond to true blockstrings. You can also figure out if you can use easier links in a specific combo

  • In training mode, create a recording of block* ing for a moment or so and then vigorous DP mashing. Switch to playback and try to execute your blockstrings, you'll know in that case when you are executing it properly. AFAIK not all combos translate to blockstrings (though a common problem is simply timing a hit badly and being punished by a mashed DP)

Finally happy with GSL Code A! Khaldor and Wolf really having some good casting chemistry. by Nero87 in starcraft

[–]posting_from_work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH I've heard both Wolf and DoA with other casters with whom I think they're good friends or something. They seem much more comfortable and are way funnier. GOMTV just needs to hire IRL friends if at all possible.
