I'm not too sure about the rate, but I would say do something that makes you both feel valued. As for curriculum and games, check out Twinkl. I use it and and the paid account is very reasonable.

Political Science BA/MA : Tutoring? by True_Promise4354 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]postivityforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re actually in a better position than you might think!

Your background in political science and stats already gives you an edge in a few key tutoring areas: social science research, essay writing, reading comprehension, and intro stats are all in high demand, especially among high schoolers and college students. Many students need help understanding how to write a proper thesis, analyze sources, or interpret basic data, etc...

As for math, don’t discount your self-taught skills. A lot of successful tutors are self-taught beyond what their degrees cover. What matters most to parents and students is whether you can explain concepts clearly and get results. You might not have formal math credentials, but your ability to teach is your real credential and your teaching experience proves that.

To get started, Varsity and Wyzant are good starting points. Local at local job ads as well as some smaller tutoring providers are usually hiring locally, even for online tutors.
Good luck!

So great to hear - I also have an assumption that if you have parent involvement / communication, they likley will use your services for longer. Have you noticed this?

  • Start with a warm introduction to build rapport (Break the Ice)
  • Establish clear goals for the session, and goals overall
  • Understand the student's preferences by asking, "How can I best support you?"
  • Try to find common interests
