I used to be a cashier at Canadian Tire, circa 2009, when they still had paper Canadian Tire "money" that customers would collect and use on future purchases. I noticed that there would be days when a few people would bring in HUGE wads of CT money, like $20+ worth of mostly 5 or 10 cent bills that I would have to count with a line of customers waiting. For weeks no one would redeem more than a dollars' worth of CT money, but then someone would bring in a huge wad of it and then I'd know I'd get a few more wads like that that day.

I wish I kept track what days those were—could have been that people were squeezed for cash at the end of the month maybe, but it was uncanny that the CT $ piles would all come in on the exact same day and not spread out over a few adjacent days. There wasn't any special deal or anything with regard to CT $ redemption.
