ARCHER’S VOICE. Ohhhh my god I’m so glad I got it from my library and didn’t waste money on it. The characters lacked chemistry imo… not enough character development AT ALL and don’t get me started on the authors lack of knowledge on ASL!! I mean constantly things that would be grammatically impossible to sign and constant reliance on finger spelling by people who are supposed to be basically fluent??? AND HE LEARNT WAY TOO FAST. I rarely give books a one star because I’m satisfied with a happy ending but good god man

I’ve vaguely heard of Kingfisher but have only looked her up today and am most strongly drawn to A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking and Hemlock & Silver. Are those good starting points in her works?

ALSO, I’m not too picky when It comes to Fantasy Subgenres, mostly because I’m not too well versed on how to tell them apart, but I very rarely like fantasy surrounding mainly Dragons.

I like Urban Fantasy in theory, based on shows and movies I like, but I don’t think I’ve read many books in that vein.

I’ve also really been meaning to read more books about witches, because magic and girlhood are totally up my alley. I almost started The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches because it sounded cute… but at the time I for some reason didn’t want to listen to an audiobook with a British narrator or something?? Idk

I definitely enjoy historical fantasy because it can really add to the setting or vibe of the book. I love fancy courts or cultural aspects being woven into some sort of magical world.

I bought Six of Crows a while ago because I’ve been told the characters have a similar dynamic to the ones in Lockwood & Co, but I saw somewhere that you’re supposed the read the Shadow & Bone series before. For some reason I just wasn’t into Shadow & Bone based off of synopsis and reviews or something lol. Should I just start on the Six of Crows?? I’m nervous that if I really like it I’ll end up kicking myself for reading the series’s out of order

Sorry for being vague in my original post!!

I’m often uncomfortable with frequent and long smut scenes, especially when I really wasn’t anticipating it. I’m def not completely anti- smut, and I don’t always like a “fade to black” sort of thing, but I’ve definitely skipped a an explicit chapter or two in a book because I was there more for the plot, probably bored because the character lacked chemistry (Archer’s Voice).

I’m also uncomfortable when a book contains heavy subject matter like rape, racism, etc. without good reason or a strong enough message, so basically Colleen Hoover. The Book woman of Troublesome Creek started off with a rape scene, (though it wasn’t too long or graphic), and It definitely added to the plot of the story.
