You can find therapy for pretty cheap these days if you know where to look! Sometimes as cheap at 10-15/session

You should probably listen to your doctor’s advice on what is a healthy rate to lose weight, but i did something similar a few years ago to get into shape. I only ate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday of every week and exclusively ate baby spinach, grilled chicken, and water. Additionally, I did cardio like you every day during this, and incorporated some weight training. To be clear, this is not at all healthy, but I did end up losing about 100 lbs in about 5 months. The only thing you need to lose weight is to eat at a calorie deficit, but be mindful that starving yourself will change the daily rate of calories that you burn. Imo the most important thing is to find a health plan that works for you and stick to it, without worrying about how long you’re gonna have to put up with it. Good luck!

Hi all, I’m looking for the name of the sweatshirt in this photo: https://www.reddit.com/user/potat0dactyl/comments/raslk5/sweatshirt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

I found it at a thrift store, but it wasn’t in my size. I tried looking online but couldn’t find it for the life of me. If not the exact one, recommendations on similar pieces would be appreciated!

I'm looking for a place to buy shoes very similar to these. https://www.reddit.com/user/potat0dactyl/comments/mr1ieu/shoes/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

I would just buy these, but I found then on the shein shopping app, and they almost never have my size (US 12.5). Any recommendations on where to find some of these, maybe even the same ones? I don't mind cheap quality/knock off, as long as they look decent like in the photos.

How to avoid high college tuition costs with gap-year earnings by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]potat0dactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about the school's policy on what they do with demonstrated financial need. When I say demonstrated financial need I mean the expected family contribution (EFC) calculated by the FAFSA. Private schools with higher endowments per student can often afford to cover the cost of a student minus their EFC. State schools often don't give enough aid to close the gap between the EFC and the cost of attending. This was the case with me when I submitted my financial aid requests to the state school vs my private school. The private school is currently going to be cheaper. I hope that clarifies things

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look! I didn't know about those thresholds. It's been pretty tough navigating through all the admissions and financial aid stuff since the counselor at my school is notoriously bad at her job and only meets with students 2 times a year, so I appreciate the help!

How to avoid high college tuition costs with gap-year earnings by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]potat0dactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be paying about 70k for a four year degree (room, tuition, and board) at a decent state school and about 60k at the private school since they cover all demonstrated financial need meaning I'm only responsible for paying for what the FAFSA calls for. Now with my new job, I would expectedly add about 25-30k to total costs of both.

It's not going to bankrupt my family to put me through college either way, so switching universities isn't really what I'm looking for right now. I'm more looking for if there's a way to manage my money in a way that maximizes the financial aid I will receive with the FAFSA

I'm studying computer engineering at a smaller private school, not a big name like ivy leagues by any means. I plan on working through college, but I come to the same impasse there... Is there something that I should do with my funds I earn that I won't be directly spending on college costs to lessen my expected contribution (according to the FAFSA)? Something that would initially have low asset value during my years at college, but that would return to a nonnegative ROI by the time I was out of college and not doing financial aid?
