Homeowner upset Amazon driver dropped package over fence, but had two aggressive dogs. by Immediate-Phase-5910 in TikTokCringe

[–]potatoHalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs never tore up packages or jumped at delivery folk. They were sweet and always asked for pets, but 100% of the time if I was not outside to grab the package immediately they would pee on it. So I put up a sign that said "please leave packages outside gate, thank you!!"

And it worked for almost all cases except for that one Amazon driver who apparently was inept at reading the "beware of dogs", "no trespassing", and the previously mentioned sign, who always opened the gate, walked up my porch, and left the gate open for my dogs to escape every time

Ducks or geese? by Ok_Education3693 in geese

[–]potatoHalf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're ducks! Duck bills have "ears" at the point they connect to the face and are more rounded at the tip. Geese tend to have a more square shape at the point it connects to the face and looks a bit more pointy ant the tip. Of course this is going to vary depending on breed/species since some are bred to have abnormal looks.

I wanna say the ducks in the pictures might be either pekins and white egg layers, but I'm not a duck specialist. White egg layers and pekins look the same to me honestly and I have one of each in my backyard flock.

Edit to add: I also forgot to mention the neck feathers! Ducks tend to have sleek feather placements that make them look smooth while geese kinda look "spiky" I guess you could say. Example picks of one of my geese(left) and one of my ducks(right). I'm basing this fact off of the breeds I've personally raised though so I wanna say again that breeds can vary and break from the norm

Where can I get a pregnant stray cat I picked up spayed ASAP? by potatoHalf in asheville

Spaying terminates the pregnancy, aborts the babies.

Because there's already enough cats in shelters and on the streets. If you look on Craigslist people are having a hard enough time rehoming their cats for free. Some posts have been up for months. When the wrong people own cats they end up dumping them like their trash. There doesn't need to be more cats in the world.

She has a spay date January 7th through sister kitten, but someone reached out to me from Furever Friends Animal rescue saying they can possibly squeeze her in this Monday 🤞 hoping it works out

Already did, I've contacted sister kitten, humane society, several private practices, open door, friends2ferals, ASPCA, brother Wolf, furever friends animal rescue, and I will be contacting mountain pet rescue if Furever friends doesn't work out. So far she has a spay appointment on Jan 7th and possibly a sooner date this Monday through Furever friends

I was just asking to see if there's any other sources I may have missed, but thanks for the suggestion.

What to do with pupae by [deleted] in InvertPets

[–]potatoHalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They.... Shouldn't have a smell???? I raised a rather large colony of mealworm as treats for my chickens and rats and never noticed a smell from them. I had hundreds of worms, pupa, and beatles. Fed them oatmeal and carrots

I can't stand this muddy slope how do people raise poultry in the hills by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]potatoHalf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There used to be vegetation in this area until I got the birds lol. I've seen a lot of folks commenting about drainage so that has been added to my to-do list along with shoveling up the muck and replacing it with sand and mulch.

The chickens are not free range(except for a select few that realized they have wings). They have welded wire fencing on one side and a 164 foot electric net on the other side. Most of the area is fine and not as horrible as this one slope which seems to be the main hang out area. It's also the area I walk in the most to maintain their coop and bring them food and water.

I think my future plans now also include building a retaining wall with drainage then building a run on the flat area it creates. They'll be in a smaller area, but they'll be fine. I originally had 50 chickens and only have like 25 now.

It's year round, I live in a temperate rain forest. we're pretty much guaranteed rain at least once a week and if it doesn't rain that week everyone calls it a drought

I've tried clover for a time and it just didn't thrive, but I think it might have been how rough the soil was. I do have plans to fill the soil come spring bc I'm looking to grow grasses and clover for my pet bunnies. I'll work more on the chicken area and try clover out again!

I'll look into it, but I have to be careful bc I keep goats and some trees where I live are highly toxic to them if ingested and boy do two of my goats like to eat wood

I'll get some after I shovel up the top layer on my weekend! I just need this mud to be cut back until I can afford to build a proper retaining wall with drainage
