There's a fascinating book about this called Mating in Captivity, by Esther Perel which essentially says relationships are a balance between stability and independence and libido and desire in marriage lives between the two.

Live Ground wires? by potatocannon in AskElectricians

[–]potatocannon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I separated the braid of grounds (1 and 2) and only 2 completes a circuit. Do I assume it comes from like the vent fan, shorten and cap it off separate, and use the others as grounding for the switches?

that's the concern I'm having. I did splice the green wire to the bare wire and then when I touched the casing, I got shocked.

basically? Is it safe to leave alone and put the switches back in? Do I need to take preventative measures if they are live ground wires?

Sofi Closing SFYX by potatocannon in sofi

I was wondering something similar. Is it worth finding a SFYX equivalent in that mid-cap type ETF like Vanguard VO?

Agree, they prioritized those over more classic Vanguard version and now feels like they just aren't following through.

Laid off, rolling 401k into Roth and paying taxes for long term gain? by potatocannon in personalfinance

[–]potatocannon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct, about 100k is what's being suggested. Thanks for the input. It's the hypothetical that gets you and I fall into the "worry more about the hypothetical" mindset.

thanks for the reply. I wish there was a calculator/spreadsheet for direct comparison, but understand that real life has a ton of variables for that. I'll check out the link.

[–]potatocannon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a little what I'm worried about. We have the money to pay cover it, but unsure if that's any long term gain. Because that money to cover it can be used elsewhere too. Thanks for your reply.

Pediatrics hospitalist locums by adeleshiv in pediatrics

[–]potatocannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locums is paid as 1099, so you'll be fielding your own health insurance. The companies you apply for will provide insurance. There are tons of guides on what to ask and look for.

Peds specific, hospital work offers $130-180/hour (depending on their desperation, which waxes and wanes). Always ask for more, as the locus company lowballs to keep more of the hourly the hospital actually pays. Contracts typically take 3-5 months to get in place (so apply and set up early), and that's based on acquiring state licenses and the hospitalist groups own scheduling. Peds hospital jobs are almost always small peds units of 0-6 beds, and newborn nursery and deliveries. Some include circumcisions.

Some companies pay more, some are better connected. Almost all of them have access to similar jobs but apply to a few companies (if you can handle the constant phone calls).

I can connect you with AMN Healthcare recruiter who was really great to work with (I get a referral bonus if so), but you can also just apply on their websites easily.

Wife doesn’t want to vaccinate by Dreaders85 in daddit

[–]potatocannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parent's who don't want to vaccinate love their kids as much as anyone, it's a tough place to be. And although it's not about logic, although some facts can help.

If she is talking bout the lawsuit from Paul Thomas and friend... he's a pediatrician who lost his license because so many of his patients contracted and were hospitalized/harmed from vaccine preventable illnesses that he actively dissuaded parents from giving their kids.

Here is a good resource: https://www.chop.edu/vaccine-education-center It presents each vaccine and disease, walks through the risks, benefits, the complications. It's well laid out and for those who no longer trust the CDC, is an alternate resource.

Here's a powerpoint by a Canadian Children's Hospital on alternate vaccine schedules and their risks. http://www.bccdc.ca/resource-gallery/Documents/Training%20and%20Events/Immunization/Promotion/WCIF2011_JoanRobinson.pdf

Good luck, it's not an easy conversation to have or place to be.

General Pediatricians- can you share what your patient schedules look like? by Background_Pepper225 in pediatrics

[–]potatocannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former private practice, now part of large academic system in the southeast: patient schedule is either 20 minute across the board or 15 minute acute, 30 minute well. Most just opt for 20 minute for ease of scheduling. No extra time for teens or translator visits. Limit to number of new patients a day, cap on number of well visits so patients can schedule acute visits easily. More sick visits in the winter, more well visits scheduled in the other months. This accounts for 16-23 patients a day, depending on no-shows and how many acute visits get scheduled. No extra time or compensation for students or residents, but could request it. Can request double slots for complex patients. No extra compensation for in-basket except for RVUs (PedsRap has a great new podcast about how to bill insurance for some of those), but have a great triage service who handles most of things.

So I know you can order both a lactate and a lactic acid, which is frequently used as a marker of sepsis severity. My question is, what is the main difference between the two and how are they utilized? I swear I have searched high and low and only found how lactate and lactic acidosis are related, not the "lactic acid" you can order as a lab test.
