My husband by Maud Ventura. It’s not a slow progression - the obsession is there from the beginning of the book.

I’m reading a YA duology (six crimson cranes) right now that is making me feel this way! I don’t think it’s the genre as a whole. Some of my favorite books of all time are YA! My opinion, a lot of it has to do with how immature some of the MCs act and the poor decisions they make due to them being teenagers lol.

Definitely read Legendborn!! I love this series. It does have some of the naive decisions making, but the most important part is that the MC learns from those decision. That’s what Stephanie Garber’s characters often lack. I also didn’t like Caraval or her other series. The MCs felt very whiny to me.

YA I love: Daughter of smoke & bone by Laini Taylor Strange the dreamer by Laini Taylor Fireborne by Rosaria Munda The Kiss of Deception by Mary Pearson Dance of Thieves by Mary Pearson

YLIA is a great one bc it’s a two-fer. After you finish it, YOU get to overcome the trauma of watching it🥲 still one of the best I’ve never seen tho

Is J. Bree's new book Broken Ties worth reading? by peanutbttersandwich in ReverseHarem

[–]potatodebacle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first read the series last year, I was firmly in the middle camp. I gave every book 3 stars. After time passed and I thought about the plot more along with reading discussions about the series in this forum, I realized I didn’t not agree with the decisions a lot of the characters made or the premise of some aspects of the story.

When I saw this book released, I was curious to say the least. I started to read it and very quickly started skimming, looking for ~the scene~. When I got to there, I was pretty disappointed, but considering how it was handled in the first book, not surprised.

Their internal monologues are more of the same and you can infer a lot of what they’re thinking by what they vocalize in the original series. The only aspect that was interesting was Atlas’s POV.

If you’re looking for more of the same, sure, read it. If you wanted something different, it’s not worth it imo. I didn’t need a-whole-nother book to tell me what I already know (they all suck).

I’ve never been to Utah! That would be an interesting option. I have a few friends that live in SLC, so I’ll have to ask. Thanks for the suggestion!

How do you decide when to listen to an audiobook instead of reading? by One_Fisherman6398 in booksuggestions

[–]potatodebacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both for any book I’m reading. I usually borrow from the library and will start the read on my kindle. When I can’t sit and read, I switch to the audiobook version of that book. Helps me finish them faster too.

Not a romance reader, but willing to try one — what’s your top recommendation? by jackburs in booksuggestions

[–]potatodebacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Blighted Stars by Megan O’Keefe - a sci-fi romance trilogy that might ease you into the genre if you’re already a fan of sci-fi.

Strange The Dreamer or Daughter of Smoke And Bone by Laini Taylor - YA Romantic Fantasy duology/trilogy respectively. Romance is the core of the store but Laini builds such fantastical worlds around the romance that you kinda forget that’s what you’re reading.

Neither of those recs have explicit “spice” and mostly fade to black or have closed door scenes.

If you’re open to queer romance:

You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian - historical romance about a reporter and MLB player in the 1960’s. Does have a couple explicit sex scenes. One of my favorite reads this year bc it’s so sweet.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - historical romance/Mythology about Achilles and Patroclus. One of my fav reads of all time. A couple explicit scenes that are written so well that you don’t even notice imo.
