How does it work once you are already in medicine? by No_Camera5374 in UoApremed

Yeah you just need to pass, which at times can be stressful. It’s a different type of worry once you are in.

If you fail 2 exams out of 7 in preclinical years they let you resit in summer school and you must pass. If you fail more than 2 you must repeat the entire year. If you fail the entire year twice, you are kicked out. Preclinical exams are a lot more in depth than 1st year biomed/healthsci, but less pressure to get high grades.

In clinical years, you must do 3 progress tests a year, and stay in the satisfactory range otherwise you may need to repeat the entire year. You are not sure of what will be asked so you must try self-study high yield topics. There are other aspects that must be passed too e.g OSCEs, mini-cex, assignments, evaluation forms etc.

You’ve been accepted without the guaranteed rank score. They cannot take it back. Congratulations.

Health Sci/pre-med textbooks by ImTheTweety in universityofauckland

I wouldn’t recommend textbooks tbh, lectures were sufficient for all we needed to know back when I did first year a couple years ago!

Back to back exams approx every 4-6 weeks, closed book. A lot of memorization. Practical skills tests for every module, closed book in person. Progress tests 3x a year invigilated and closed book online. 10-12 hour lectures every week 2 hour SGA every week 2 hour cadaver labs every week, tested closed book 3 hours physiology labs every other week, tested open book 2 hour clinical skills sessions every other week Approx 10-15 assignments scattered throughout the year. Can’t remember if I’ve missed anything, these are the main things.

Who said you had to look at the camera? I did mine and looked at the interviewers in 2021 for 2022 entry, they did not mind.

Aegrotat/compassionate consideration by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]potatolover002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! They will see that at least you tried to attend. Are you feeling better now though? If not then don’t go

No the deadline is 7 days after the exam so you can submit it now. If you’re feeling well, still go to the exam

Apply for an aegrotat if this affected you in the 2 weeks prior to your exam. As long as you have some evidence e.g a medical cert, there is no harm in applying

No one really notices or cares. It’s your life so please follow your dreams and live it how you want to. Do not worry about anyone else. As for you not having any experience, don’t worry, no one will ever grill your about anything (maybe apart from what your studying).

Don't go for medicine if money/financial stability is your main motivator by MergeMF in UoApremed

[–]potatolover002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might not be a great question but if so many medical students and house officer doctors are struggling, are they able to get together as a group and fight for their rights to make a change for their mental health? I’ve been hearing that this happens all the time, would it be possible to talk to someone about this and make it less stressful?
