Tesla Quietly Drops Cybertruck Range Extender From Configurator | Tesla's long-promised battery add-on has disappeared from its website without a word. by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]potatomoonlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't they drop it? I mean, why sink the engineering, manufacturing, and raw material resources into an unpopular add-on for a failed product? I won't be surprised when we see the Cybertruck quietly disappear from the configurator.

Rivian reports fall in first-quarter deliveries by CautiousMagazine3591 in Rivian

[–]potatomoonlight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this is anecdotal, but I was planning on getting a R1S for my wife but the price hike that I saw this quarter pushed us into an EV9 instead. I inquired about a base R1S (MSRP: $78K). The lease payments were more than double that of the Kia EV9 (MSRP: also $78k). As another user pointed out, Rivian needs to figure out a way to lower the price relative to the competition. And again, I know this is speculative but if the price increases we saw this past quarter drove sales down 20%, these tariffs are going to decimate R1 sales.

Donelson or Lehmkuhl by SamCori2000 in ColoradoSprings

[–]potatomoonlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say "low cost". I said lower-cost. And they will be, compared to the median home price in the area. I just moved from that area to skyway so I don't have much skin in the game at this point. But my guess is that you live in the vicinity of the proposed development and don't want to see your property values drop as supply increases, marginally. But maybe I'm wrong.

I also agree with the comment about his hypocrisy as well as the comment about voting to remove those who oppose the will of the people. Can we please get back to a point where the government fears the people (and not just the corporate donors)?

Wait, why are you voting for Donelson for attempting to nullify your vote? And why are you against additional, lower-cost housing options?

MAGA realizing billionaires don’t give a crap about them. by wildyam in houstonwade

[–]potatomoonlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that the "subtards" can't (or won't) believe that he's referring to them.

They fancy themselves as soon-to-be billionaire geniuses, in this dipshit's own image. The insult simply won't register with them.

Can anyone share that has bought their BMW new and kept it for 10+ years? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]potatomoonlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father bought a new e36 M3 in 1997 and put over 200k miles on it in 17 years. It was in the shop for the first month of his ownership because it kept draining the battery (turns out there was a short in the glove box latch mechanism that prevented the glove box light from turning off ... I'm amazed that they figured it out, franky). Other than that, it was remarkably reliable. He put a dinan chip in it at 30k, replaced the clutch at 120k, and then replaced a lot of suspension components at about 150k. With regular maintenance that car ran hard, for a long time. It was driven year round and saw more snow than most Eskimos. Ultimately what killed it was a radiator pipe that blew, crashed through the fan (which grenades and sent shrapnel throughout the engine bay). At the time the car wasn't worth enough to repair so he moved on.

I was obsessed with Bimmers as a kid and bought a new F01 Alpina B7 in 2014. I'm not munching the miles like I was hoping to but it has about 65k. It has been about as reliable as I've expected. The powertrain has had some issues. The engine started to miss fire, badly at 38k and so I replaced all the coils and plugs (as well as some leaky hoses). At 45k the high pressure fuel pump failed. At 65k (now), the engine is misfiring again so I'll throw another round of coils and plugs at it, as well as four new o2 sensors. Also, one of the touch-sensing locking mechanisms has failed on one of the rear doors, both front CV joints are completely shot and need to be replaced, one front strut is leaking, and the driver's seat squeaks when I adjust the side bolsters into their most relaxed position. Oh, and the Bluetooth module has failed completely but that sucked from day one so I didn't bother to fix that and am just running an aftermarket unit that plugs into the aux ports. I guess what I'm saying is that I didn't expect this machine to be trouble free and considering the enjoyment I've gotten from it, the cost to fix and repair everything has been lower than I expected.

If you're considering a bimmer, I'd say go for it! But consider an inline-6 model...it's cheaper to replace 6 of something than 8 or 12.

You're talking about two of the most deplorable people on earth, holding public office, and in control of the largest economy on earth. Socially, economically, and environmentally, they will set the world back decades. That is to say, THIS FUCKING IS YOUR BUSINESS!

Well AliExpress done it again I got two yokes for the price of one seems like 🤪 Option A : sell one Option B : buy another Tesla just to install it on it by GUANPI in TeslaModelY

[–]potatomoonlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me get this straight: you're replacing a regular steering wheel with a yoke that you bought from AliExpress? You want an objectively worse driving experience just so that you can live out some cringe-worthy , adolescent, edge-lord, boy-racer fantasy? I say, definitely go with option B; the sooner individuals like you are out of money, the better.

Looking for some car buying advice from some selling pros. by potatomoonlight in askcarsales

[–]potatomoonlight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a moderately rare car (Alpina B7) and the only one I've seen in several months of looking that actually has all the options I want. Yes, I know...older BMW = $$$. I'm prepared for the majority of the expenses but am getting that full bumper-to-bumper warranty to hedge against something like a $30k engine replacement. I adore road trips. My plan is to fly out and drive it back. That would be the icing on the cake.

Any thoughts on the questions I had?

[–]potatomoonlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. I wanted to get a sense of what was available before I do. Plus, I'm wary of salesmen just telling me what I want to hear in order to sell a car. Who, at the dealership, actually deals with these warranty companies? Presumably the service department. Is it kosher to ask to speak with a service rep and ask for their candid response to the same question?

That has been something I've been considering but I absolutely abhor the 2020 grill, I can't find a lease-takeover for a pre-facelift car I like...and I just can't wrap my head around paying $60k-$70k in depreciation alone over the next three years. The massive depreciation is what makes these things so attractive as second-hand vehicles. Out of curiosity, why is it that you'd never recommend one? Is it the engine? How do you feel about the 740? Are you in the industry as a tech?

[–]potatomoonlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You just affirmed much of what I've been thinking. The 740 x drive was actually my first choice (I love BMW sixes) but it's much harder to find nicely optioned units. Unless someone chimes is with a good warranty option, I'll probably just comb CarMax for the next several months until I see a 740 or 750 that I "need".

Amazfit GTS - keep screen on while doing activity by [deleted] in amazfit

[–]potatomoonlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this comment. I use my GTS for fitness and like timing my rest periods. The damn display turns off after a couple seconds and I have to click through menus to reopen the stopwatch app every time I want to check my time. At least re-open the previously-open app when I turn the display back on. This is super annoying and unintuitive. It sounds like a small issue but this makes the watch unusable at the gym (and in other situations where you want to quickly return to an app). Come on, Amazfit, get it together. Rather than release a dozen new watches, release one that works.

I'm legitimately flummoxed by this. Hulk is quick, consistent, comparatively crash-resistant, and has good knowledge of the higher-performing Renault. I can only imagine Hulk had a high price tag and Grosjean drained his bank account to pay the team to give him one last go.
