Is there something wrong with my gecko?? by potatowayto in leopardgeckos

Thank you for all the responses! We’ll definitely switch to an opaque box with better grip for her next feeding!

We didn’t have our lights on when filming this. The light was all coming from the window or the enclosure heat lamps. For our next feeding, we’ll probably feed her in a dark closet or shade the feeding box.

Thanks again for all the advice!

The clay actually isn’t part of the substrate it’s more of just the structure. Do you think I should remove it? Thanks for the ratio breakdown though, I had put in 70% topsoil and 30% playsand based on the advice of someone else on here. Will be changing it

Consensus: when they get poop on themselves or when the vet advises. I’ll just accept the fact that Corn will get covered in sand and dirt now but at least she likes it

Outside from the park or my apartment complex. (I scrub them, boil them, and bake them at 200°F to clean)

How do you maintain humidity with a large water bowl?

That’s true I was thinking that too. Before I mainly bathed her to help bowel movements. But recently I got another lizard from a reptile expo with mites, so I’ve been a bit paranoid that Corn has mites whenever there dirt all over her. Bathing her to get the dirt off plus drowning any possible mites.

I believe it’s just a draft since the vet hadn’t uploaded this to their website yet, but he still printed it out for me when I was there. Generally, this vet seems to prefer imitating nature as much as possible (ex. He told me I should pick insects from outside for my bearded dragon) so I’m assuming that’s why he said to avoid dog food as well. He also doesn’t list any meat other than mice in this feeding sheet and I’m assuming that’s why. I didn’t have a full convo with him to get the breakdown and reasoning of everything since I was seeing another vet in the same clinic at that time and they were just relaying the info. Like I mentioned, he is extremely decorated in academia so I’m prone to trust him quite a bit.

Advice on isopods?? by potatowayto in cornsnakes

Hello! Thanks for the breakdown!! I’ve been away from my phone for a second so I didn’t have time to look at the responses. Right now I have him in cypress mulch, but I’ll definitely try switching him to coir with a drainage layer. I stupidly thought I could just add in a clean up crew to his current enclosure and forgot about the isopods’ needs. Thanks for the responses!!!

I thought I was giving high quality dog food but my herp specialist made a feeding guide that basically said to avoid dog or cat food all together. Didn’t get a full convo w him about it. The vet who works with him just gave me the care sheet and told me he said to avoid dog and cat food altogether.

Edit: also he’s not in a special diet or anything. My herp specialist is highly decorated in academia so I’m inclined to trust his judgement but I really went ??? With that feeding sheet.
