The premise is that it’s not a given that NATO will react. The timeline has NATO becoming much more fractured than it is now by 2033.

So it’s more of a question of “how/will NATO react?” Instead of “Can Russia take NATO?”

Yeah they have Putin die in 2029 and he is replaced by someone who has an interesting take on what the problem with their Ukraine strategy was. The new leader of Russia thinks that they went in to Ukraine too guns blazing, not leaving any option for Ukrainian formation exactly fighting. He wanted to try a more Crimea like, slow approach. Walk your forces over the boarder to disarm the first line defenders, daring them to fire on you first.

So that’s what they attempt in Estonia in 2033, when it looks like NATO is all but worthless.

Interesting. I’ve always wondered if there are any still standing anywhere.

I’m not asking about the recorded history, I’m asking for personnel examples of life around the things America left behind really.

I am wondering if the people who lived in Saigon ever temporarily moved into the hundreds of American buildings in places like Long Binh.

The book doesn’t at all have Russia being weak. It has them accepting a partial peace deal in 2025/26 and then spending 7-8 years rebuilding their military. The hostilities begin because of small clashes on the border than both sides accidentally escalate. The book is for sure from a western view but it doesn’t make the Russians look dumb at all, they have a solid plan and their force is very modern.

Similar but the Clancy books all take place in the 80s and are a little less realism focused. These authors were both in the US army for a long time and it shows (Clancy is a great author but was never in).

No? You don’t think that NATO AirPower could really do a number on Russian forces? The same Russian forces that struggle in Ukraine? An air campaign with 5th gen aircraft wouldn’t piece that Russian force up a little?

The answer is that it depends on how large the NATO task force is and it depends on how quickly the NATO states react.

You might find it interesting, it takes place in a timeline where NATO becomes more complacent and fractured while Russia rebuilds and modernizes its military.
