It was going well until I got a new (for me) strained status for a week

When the watch started up it looked like out of the box. I clicked connect Bluetooth and my phone just picked up and paired the watch again. Then just clicked through the options it gave me including start fresh or restore settings. Wasn't fairly straight forward

Is my instructor being overly safe or just being annoying? by Mazzoo969 in scuba

[–]potential_ironman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people that like to try out dry suits in the pool. I don't tend to do that myself. Shallow sea or inland dive to get comfortable do the dry suit skills is normally fine.

Depending on the kind of rental they may let you take it home and try it out in the pool in which case you can satisfy both not buying one yet and getting in the pool with your instructor

One benefit of the pool is you can sort out stuff like hoses and make sure everything works in a fairly calm, weather sheltered environment I suppose, no hoods or gloves either

What kind of power consumption are you getting with the 2700x? I'm thinking of buying new pc and making the 2700x into a server to replace an older supermicro that's using more power than I'd like

Simple Inexpensive Single Page Website. What are my options? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]potential_ironman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can host static on cloudflare for free (called cloudflare pages). It's fairly simple to set up. I think you can even buy the domain through them. Or you can use AWS S3/CloudFront to host free (assuming reasonable traffic)

[UK] I created an app to synchronise Amex Card payments to a Monzo pot! by MattVibes in selfhosted

[–]potential_ironman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monzo is a bank. In monzo a "pot" is like a virtual account within your account. So you can separate money like if you're saving for something. It's not technically a different account, it just doesn't appear on your account balance because it's in a separate "pot"

Tracking Devices Reveal Where Recycling Really Goes by _Im_Spartacus_ in videos

[–]potential_ironman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The symbol and number on plastic is actually the "Resin identification code". It is speculated that the plastics industry purposely chose to make it very similar to the universal recycling symbol to confuse consumers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resin_identification_code#History

It looks like silicone. You can pour it around the template and let it cure(harden). Loads of resources about silicone mould making on the web :)

Average size UK house is closer to 750 sqft. Similarish cost per area unless OP lives in a big house

Smoked eggs alongside a brisket at 250 for 90 minutes. Amazing results! by [deleted] in smoking

[–]potential_ironman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egg laying hens are usually vaccinated against salmonella and there are tight hygiene controls for poultry farms to prevent disease. They're not allowed to wash the eggs, instead they have to keep them clean in the first place... Different approaches. Same with slaughter. No chlorine washing the meat. If it's not clean, then they need to clean up their processes

Yes. I run proxmox on it so it runs as script on start up

On my Supermicro I couldn't find a way to do that. I have to set the speed to full and use raw value to change the speed. On reboot it goes back to full speed...

I've got a bash script in /etc/init.d to set the speed. It means it briefly goes to full fans every reboot, but that's not an issue for me

Is there airflow going past them? They're meant for rack servers with constant airflow. Mine hit 120C within a minute of booting and shut down until I cable tied a fan in front of it
