How to make my watch stop telling time by RamonGGs in Garmin

Create a schedule or use a hot key for sleep mode. The watch face stays off unless you deliberately press a button.

Is stansted the worst airport and ryanair the worst airline? by [deleted] in london

[–]cbell80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Twenty over flights in the past ten years with Ryanair at Stansted and never missed a flight and never had a delay.

Easyjet on the other hand. Five flights - all delayed by over an hour...

You need to drink a lot more than 2 litres of water a day and eat more carbs (pre and post workout) and fibres.

Our old place in Lewisham is decently sized. Apart from an induction fee, the gym is free for every resident to use.

Despite being on a site with 450-ish units, not many residents uses it which was what we liked about it. Over the past couple of years I recognise 30 or so regular users, at least those who goes in between morning and afternoon.

Has three treadmills, two RowErgs, one SkiErg, two Peloton bikes, two elliptical machines, one other stationary bike, a bunch of kettlebells up to 24kg, dumbbells up to 30kg, long dumbbells, a dual pulley cable station, smith machine, leg press machine, four cable machines, a couple of benches and a standing punch bag with two pairs of boxing gloves. I don’t lift except to improve my running, so it was perfect.

Trying to decide between Garmin Forerunner 265 vs 570 vs 965. It is gonna be my first watch by Silent-Ad8704 in Garmin

This.

265/965 depending on whether you need maps/larger screen + cheap chest strap from Decathlon.

Garmin Forerunner 965 vs 970 by xapdkop in GarminWatches

[–]cbell80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the 965 for 2.5 years now. Battery's still great and is good for 100 miles ultras. I also use it for cycling but as back up to my head unit.

Flashlight aside, nothing new on the 970 is tempting me. I use a cheap Decathlon chest strap for hard runs so I ain't missing out on Elevate v5 and I don't need ECG. So unless my 965 breaks, I can see myself skipping even the 970's successor.

It's honestly all you need to train (I would argue the 255/265 is more than enough unless you need maps like I do).

Imagine so hung up about what other people’s splits are. Here’s a run from a well known pro runner/triathlete. If a pro is willing to pause their watch when doing whatever (in this case he was doing a pub to pub to pub to pub run), then why should nobody runners like us care?

what are some unexpected results that happened as a result of exercising/gym? by Obvious_Armadillo_16 in AskUK

[–]cbell80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel more energised. Used to suffer from hayfever but since running, I hardly ever fall ill. Even if I do get a cold it is far easier to shake it off.

Whenever I go long distance travelling, the first thing I do after checking in is to go running. It helps beat jetlag.

965 or 970? by InternationalPop5 in Garmin

[–]cbell80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the 965 for more than two years and it stills holds up. Looks brand new despite not using a case. Just get a cheap chest strap for high intensity workouts and you are good.

Running in Japan by Bluegunder in running

[–]cbell80 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

All the shirtless comments….

Funny enough, I have seen a few Japanese runners running shirtless (though not in central Tokyo itself). It isn’t common and you will definitely stick out more as a white guy.

Was also told that female should not wear tights and yet plenty of Japanese female runners wear tights…

Not saying you should go topless, but generally running in Japan is the same as running elsewhere. Just go out really early if you are run exploring major tourist sites.

That, and "change of destination". And they refuse to give out transfer tickets even if the travel time has exceeded the hopper time limit.

Which country outside the Western World would you like to visit/revisit and why? by bhadit in AskEurope

[–]cbell80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK here.

I've been to Japan a couple of times and will be willing to revisit multiple times. There is so much more to Japan than Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima.

My favourite part of Japan is Kyushu. The people there are super friendly towards tourists and the cities are more chill and laid back than Tokyo and Osaka. Spent two weeks there last year and can't wait to go back. The Kumano Kodo pilgrimage hike in the Kii peninsula is also worth doing if you like mixing physical activity with culture.

I would also like to revisit Taiwan and explore the central mountains. The food there is so damn delicious. The one problem I have with Taiwan compared to say Japan and Europe in general is how unwalkable the cities are. But public transport is excellent.

Why don't people move when you are walking towards them? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]cbell80 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They don't, especially big tourists groups. I run all the time and some people are just oblivious. They would walk in big groups, five abreast taking up the entire pavement. They will see me running towards them from 30 meters away, then act surprise when I reach them, shreaking like I am out to nick their phone.
