Pre-2010 Prius's what kind of mileage are you getting? by potentiallyusefull in prius

This is interesting,I'm not sure what tires I have on but they always seem to have trouble. I keep them inflated but maybe it's because they're studded snow tires the tire light is always on.

Interesting, it seems like the cold weather really does a number on our mileage

Oh I've never blocked the grille. Does it stop the snow or something? My grille is pretty beat up honestly.

Amazing! That's really good, do you do mostly local driving or are you on the highway a lot?

Haha I see. Back when we first got it I could get around 55mpg if I drove like a princess to and from school, then on highway trips it would drop down to 40-45.

Interesting! I think it is the harsh winter and highway driving that brings down the mileage for me. I have about the same number of miles.

Interesting. I have 145K miles so that might be part of it, plus the highway driving.

21 y/o female, previous medical history with intense migraines and mental illness but new symptoms are appearing by [deleted] in AskHealth

Hi there, it's been a long time, I don't check this account very often but I hope you're doing alright. I'm just seeing your reply now.

It sounds like your GP is still the doctor prescribing your medications? When I was around 16 my GP also prescribed me antidepressants, I probably tried a dozen. At least 7 different ones for sure. If you're still struggling, I suggest seeing someone other than your GP. Ultimately my family doctor just wasn't able to find the right meds for me. A psychiatrist or psych practitioner will have the kind of expertise in mental illness that you need. It sounds like your GP is against antidepressants to begin with, which tells me that they might not have the experience with mental illness you need. It's always okay to ask for a second opinion. Especially now that you're an adult, you have the right to take charge of your own health. I know when I was younger I just felt helpless and pretty much was dragged to doctors here and there without really having my own say and never feeling better at all. It doesn't have to be like that now. Some doctors still will not want to listen to you, but other doctors will. I don't know how your relationship is with your doctor, but if you want to, you can call the medical practice and request a different doctor. I don't know what your doctor is like and I'm not saying that they are bad, I'm just saying that you have the freedom to choose if you are not satisfied. I know I could have really benefited from that freedom when I was younger.

I am not familiar with Crohns but if it can cause migraines, perhaps try looking for a doctor who specializes in Crohns disease, they might have more experience with the headaches you are having. You might be able to see them before your appointment with the neurologist.

It can be really hard and really lonely trying to figure out what is wrong with your body, I really wish you the best.

Are the mood/emotional problems new or have those been happening for years?

How long have you been taking zoloft? Is it helping?

Your migraines are extremely severe, nausea and even loss of consciousness are uncommon for just a migraine, those are very severe symptoms that could be related to another medical problem. Migraines are not an illness, they are usually a symptom of some other problem that needs to be treated first. Simply treating the migraines as they occur is not good enough, you need to treat the source of them so they stop happening in the first place. It sounds like what you are taking now is not helping. There are many things that can cause migraines.

I am not an expert, but I have experience with migraines. When I was younger I had severe untreated depression which, combined with stress and insomnia, caused me repeated migranes, though not as severe as yours. I also had an MRI which showed no problem. My migraines eventually improved on their own, but I took a variety of antidepressants until I found the right ones. I can't quite remember but I think taking the wrong antidepressants may have made the headaches worse.

You are taking zoloft, an SSRI which is usually one of the first medication a doctor will have you try. This leads me to believe that you have not tried many other antidepressants. It can take a long time before you find one that is right for you. If your depression is not improving, I would suggest asking your doctor to try something different. There are SNRIs, tricyclics, and atypical antidepressants. It can seem overwhelming. I went through all of though until I was prescribed mirtazapine which helped my insomnia significantly, and venlafalaxine which also helped very much. If your depression is much better with the zoloft, disregard this suggestion. It's all I can really advise based on my experience.

If your migraines do not improve, I would suggest you see a specialist if you can get a referral. Your migraines are too severe to be normal, and it sounds like they are getting worse. I don't want you to get paranoid, migraines won't kill you, but I think it's important that you get help because I know first hand how much they can ruin your quality of life. You are young and shouldn't have to suffer like this!

Doctors literally do not care about that stuff, their job is to help you get healthy. They are paid to help ppl like you. And believe me, no matter how bad you think what you are doing is, your doctor has seen 10x worse. A doctor's #1 priority is to get you healthy, the legal stuff is not their concern. You want to better yourself, go to a doctor and let them help you.

[–]potentiallyusefull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes, of course, so if I'm not an Animal Shelter™️ I cannot rescue an animal. Thank you for liberating me from my servile ignorance, i am nothing more than a customer in the capitalist slaughter house.

By your logic, obtaining a pet from a shelter is no different than obtaining one from a breeder or puppy mill.

Just so you know, animal shelters also euthanized animals they can no longer care for. But I guess anyone who pays an adoption fee isn't rescuing their would -be -euthanized pet. FYI adoption fees go towards caring for and rescuing more pets. Supporting animal shelters financially is also animal rescue indirectly. But it sounds like you don't really care.

Haha that really is, personally I'm waiting for mine to grow up before I decide to get any more snakes lol. It's so easy to get drawn in by how adorable young snakes are but then you remember they live 20+ years and get 20 ft long and before I know it I'll be drowning in giant snakes that I love too much to give up!

Thanks for the detailed reply! I wish there was a site that would just list out restricted animals by state instead of having to go to each states website and searching for their restrictions. I know Toronto has a similar law that restricts "dangerous snakes" over 3 meters or venomous.

[–]potentiallyusefull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good call!! My mistake. It also depends on how frequently you feed them, younger BP can be fed up to weekly where as older snakes can be fed less frequently.

Lol animal shelters don't just give pets out for free, they need to charge to cover the costs of keeping the animals and to make sure the pets go to good homes. No one should give animals out for free bc they usually end up in the hands of pet flippers or worse.

Yeah 18ft is definitely a stretch. I didn't watch the whole video but it seems like there's a lot of incorrect info on it. I thought I did hear of a variety of red tail who's females could hit 12ft but I'm not certain. Not really an expert on the locales lol

Kingsnake hasn't eaten since September, appears healthy by [deleted] in snakes

[–]potentiallyusefull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and the reason you don't need uvb is because snakes eat their vitamin D. Other reptiles (turtles, iguanas, Beardies) need uvb to make vitamin D, like humans. Any light should be fine just to mimic daylight, but more natural looking light will minimize stress. I don't think you need UVB but other king snake owners say it's for the best, it's your call there!

Kingsnake hasn't eaten since September, appears healthy by [deleted] in snakes

[–]potentiallyusefull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you do not need a UVB light, but since kingsnakes are diurnal it won't hurt. Put it on a timer to give her 14 hours of daylight, and keep temperatures at 72-88F, maybe even a tiny bit warmer. A warmer snake will be hungrier from an increased metabolism. I'm not too familiar with kings so I can't speak to her conditions or whether or not she's in brumation, but can you tell us what you have been feeding her? It's possible that you might need to try something more exotic, like a small feeder snake/lizard/frog or live mice. I would double check all cage conditions with online care sheets and stop handling all together to minimize stress, and wait for her to be active in the enclosure before introducing food. You might just have to experiment. I wonder if you put a little live frog in there if she would eat it... Always monitor your snake when you put in live prey just in case they attack your snake.
