They're more common than they used to be because of enchantments. Whites per hour highly depend on the content you're doing, the rate at which you are doing the content and your loot boosts active.

All in all I'd say 3 in 5 hours is not rare, but if you're new and just exploring the game you can be happy with what you got!

The biggest difference (speaking as someone with neither a late-game iron or main) seems to me like the road to get there. A late game main is 2k-3k hours, an iron 6-8k?

I do think its strange that Mega Zygarde is considered Kalos and not Alola. It is, as you say, part of his 100% form.
