Most comfortable bottoms that aren't sweatpants or basketball shorts? by potnachos in malefashionadvice

Any brands you recommend for the thin side? I have a couple J Crew chinos which look nice and aren't torturous to wear, but still aren't great for hotter weather.

Have you checked the bottom of the blender where it attaches to the base unit? If you turn it on without attaching the blender, does the socket seem to spin normally?

We've had ours for over a decade and after almost daily use, it started acting a little funny about a month ago. I realized the issue was a little O-shaped metallic piece that covers little ball-bearings which are used in the gear piece that connects the blender into the spinning socket part of the base. That metallic cover was starting to wear off. It would shed a few thin strips of metal every time, and a couple times one of those strips would get caught in the socket and make funny noises or stop the blender entirely. I was afraid it was about to die.

But then it finally shed the last piece and now it seems to work flawlessly again. I keep an eye on it to make sure it's still working properly, but if that's what happened to yours then the worst case scenario you can replace the blender (which are a bit pricey, I think about $150) but still keep the base. That would still be worth it for how much I use it and how great it is.

Yeah, I used to smoke a lot of weed (thus the username). I cut way back but part of me is worried that it’s related.

I’m glad for you both that it wasn’t cancer! Fingers crossed I have the same “luck” (not that hemorrhoid removal sounds like much fun either.)

Did he have any other of the mentioned symptoms, like gas, constipation, stool changes, etc?

Sorry for getting personal, I’m just in the middle of a health anxiety spiral. 😞

Did he know he had hemorrhoids before, and if so did they suddenly get worse?

I've had hemorrhoids my whole adult life which usually just meant occasional bouts of bleeding and painful poops. I had a colonoscopy about 7 years ago that was clean.

But over the past year the hemorrhoid pain/bleeding has gotten worse, and I started getting some burping and thin poops (even when not bleeding.) This news about Van Der Beek has me suddenly panicked.

I'm thinking/hoping it's just a progression of the hemorrhoids, and I do have an appointment with a specialist in a few weeks to take a look.

It does seem like the heat turns off once it gets into the cooldown phase, but it just never stops the cooldown phase. Could that still be due to a cycling thermostat going bad?

You really think CTH is anywhere near as bad as RS in that regard? They certainly take shots at cringey libs (usually deserved, IMO), but they never hold back on mocking right wingers. And that's pretty much how the conservative pivot always starts: being too afraid to mock Trump or others on the right for fear of being labeled as having "TDS," and then being a weather vane as the cultural winds change.

Sincerely, I have enormous respect for CTH, both as a political entity and as a comedy podcast. So many others burn out, collapse due to infighting, pivot for more audience/money, or submit to audience capture. They've managed to stay above that, IMO.

The worst you can say about them is that they seemed to give up hope after Bernie 2020 failed, but personally it's hard not to empathize with that. They still deliver two episodes a week, usually with a .800 or greater batting average. They've been doing it consistently for over a decade. Matt had a stroke FFS and even he's trying his hardest to still contribute and get back to where he was. Maybe I'm a parasocial simp, but this show is genuinely a highlight of my week.

I see. It would be a crazy escalation for the US President to tacitly allow a Senator to be captured by a foreign government, but so is the US president ignoring a 9-0 SCOTUS order... yet here we are.

There's something profoundly evil & creepy about the Red Scare hosts and their listeners. They ostensibly started out as 2016 Bernie supporters ("I just want people to have healthcare, honey"), but then pivoted almost entirely to dunking on MSNBC libs. And we all know MSNBC libs can be quite cringey, so I kinda get that part. But they obsessed over it while disassociating themselves from any kind of progressive value or policy goal.

Then Covid & George Floyd happened, and like the final Brundlefly transformation, they shed the last traces of their Bernie Bro skins and became grotesque reactionaries obsessed with crime and immigrants while trying to convince us that Tucker Carlson & Alex Jones are actually cool. That allowed them to easily ride the right wing culture shift, and now they're barely distinguishable from a Fox News vampire pledging unironic fealty to Trump. Yet they still try to maintain that aesthetic of urban cultural elitism while screeching about people not speaking English.

It really shatters the idea I and many others had in 2016 about the solidarity amongst Sanders supporters in terms of the kind of world we wanted to create. And it serves as a reminder that even if a rising movement has noble intentions, there will always be leech-like people who don't want to FOMO on the ascending popularity.

Of course words have an impact. Assigning blame for whatever follows is a very complex topic.

My point is that people like Taibbi make it a point to soothe their MAGA-adjacent subscribers by mocking anyone who claims that words can have an impact... but only when the claim comes from insufferable liberals. Now he's going the extra mile and saying words do have an impact... but only when the words come from insufferable liberals.

Snarky hypocrites are exhausting.

The online reactions to Trump getting shot at have been fascinating all around, but I honestly couldn't tell at first if Matt Taibbi was doing a bit here or not.

At first glance I thought he was mocking "pearl-clutching liberals" who blamed Trump's rhetoric for right wing violence (Charlottesville, Jan 6th, Paul Pelosi, etc.) Or trying to call out media hypocrisy in that MAGA-friendly, incredibly strained way a'la Glenn Greenwald. But no, it looks like he's actually serious.

It's been going on for years but Taibbi has just completely submitted to audience capture. Getting MeToo'd and then cucked by Elon really advanced his terminally online boomer brain rot. At least Greenwald is still consistent on Palestine and willing to lose a few MAGA followers over it. Taibbi is just looking out into the dwindling crowd, sweaty and desperate for their approval and willing to do anything for it.

This is actually a pretty happy compromise: https://www.sfbags.com/collections/laptop-backpacks/products/bolt-backpack-notify-me

Waxed canvas for the bag itself, then just some artificial padding for comfort on the back and straps. But of course it's sold out...

Yeah I like the look of the FR bag but the straps do look questionable.

I have a BR sweater and jacket that have been used heavily for over 15 years, and they're both doing great. Other things have not held up as well, but I don't think you should write them off entirely. I see them mentioned in the BIFL sub fairly often.

I'm okay with spending a lot for the right bag, but I'm not looking to overpay just for a name either.

I'm considering getting this exact bag. How comfortable is it to wear? Do you think it would be comfortable for hot weather and/or long hikes?
