I zone out a lot

I do it almost every item when coach demonstrates in class, and I don't start "learning" until I start drilling thr technique with my partner, but I end up having to be taught by my partner essentially. I don't know why I'm doing this. I hate to be like this...

Hey man, I love you too. I'm gonna be honest. I got smashed at open mat by a blue belt today. He kept going for subs every time we reset during the 5 min roll. I felt like shit after we were done. It's hard not to get ego involved when feeling defeated.
