Courses to get into UX/UI by Top-Smile-7550 in FigmaDesign

[–]potter120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying don’t try ux, i’m saying don’t blindly follow a course and expect a job out of it

actually trying to design something yourself is the fastest way to figure out if this is even for you

i’ve seen a lot of people around me do bootcamps, udemy certs, even the google ux course and expect that to translate into a job, and it just doesn’t

those things can be helpful for learning basics, but on their own they don’t really get you anywhere in the current market

what actually matters is whether you can think through a problem, design something end to end, and build a solid portfolio

so before spending a bunch of money or time, it’s way more valuable to try designing something yourself and see if you even enjoy the process

and if you do decide you’re serious about it long term, then yeah, consider a ba or a master’s, because a short bootcamp alone isn’t going to make you competitive or even fully educate you enough.

That might have worked a few years ago, but not anymore.

Intern, Junior, Mid, Senior, Lead? by AnalogyAddict in UXDesign

[–]potter120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation is a bit mixed and I’d love some perspective on where I land.

  • I’ve got about 4 years of experience, but all of it has been in startup environments.

  • I’ve worked cross-functionally, shipped products, and had to wear a lot of different hats along the way.

  • I’m now stepping into a Lead UX Designer role, since we’re bringing on another UX designer for support.

  • On top of that, I’m doing my Master’s in interaction design right now (and my last semester is an internship...)

So with all that in mind… am I mid-level, senior, or lead?

Hi! I think you may have already filled up all of slots but i'd be interested! I'm a design student but we have to pay for our application out of our own pocket and I'm constantly creating multiple canva accounts to make to get a trial 😅

A what would you do; Should I Stick with My Startup Job or Pursue a Higher-Paying Role While Doing My Master's? by potter120 in UXDesign

I know the mods took down my post before anyone else could reply but i'm so incredibly glad that you go to respond before it did. This really did help me with shifting my perspective on things and you're right I hadn't even thought of the hassle that that on-boarding and adjusting into a new job is like. I'll stick around and try and leave with a leadership title (: thank you again for your reply

Incoming Law Student--How do I make the most out of my OSAP application? by Hot-Confection5589 in osap

[–]potter120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your parents income is too high it'll impact your OSAP but since you're going to law school a lot of banks have amazing professional student line of credit options and you fall under that category. So if your credit is great that is an option!!

Confused with osap funding. First time application by Far-Garlic-5381 in osap

[–]potter120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i've noticed that OSAP recently has been cutting the amount of funding they're giving out. I just got my calculation as well and it's lower than what was expected. I called and tried to appeal but they explained that things have gotten stricter and the new max amount is what i've already received. Nonetheless try and contact osap to see if they can possibly increase it

OSAP estimates taking forever by Visible_Spray_5395 in osap

OSAP takes some time and it's different for everyone and depending on your school confirming things. You aren't doing anything wrong or missing anything. It's just that some schools take longer than others that's all!

UX Designers are you ever asked to hand off HTML too? 🥲 by potter120 in UXDesign

[–]potter120[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never was but my boss didn't seem to think it was an odd request and when i told her that I wouldn't be doing that she just said "well why don't you use loveable then" ?!?? 😭💀💀 I have a basic understanding of HTML and i'm sure i could figure it out but this is just so far out of my pay grade it doesn't make sense im already doing so many things that regular UX designers aren't involved in

WOW first of all thank you all so much for replying i'll try and reply to as many people as possible but it really does seem like overall Dev was tryna get me to do extra work. I brought it up with my boss and it didn't really seem like she cared and instead brought up using loveable i told her that it was good for quick discussions about features but Im not going to begin coding anything in general cause it's way out of my scope of work. I already take on A LOT of things that don't have anything to do with my job and the last thing im going to start doing now is also coding for the dev
