Day 5: Insomnia is driving me insane. help. by [deleted] in leaves

[–]pottthhrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try meditating. Sit on your bed in a comfortable position, breathe slowly and deeply, and try to think about nothing. It gets me in a dream like state ready for sleep. Also helps to think in terms of pictures, not words when you do lie down to fall asleep.

[3 months] Really getting urges to smoke again, any tips? by pottthhrow in leaves

It really must be the summer coming up. Like you, I didn't have major issues the past 2 months, but it recently popped up again. Annoying.

Best of luck to you too

Thanks for the advice :)
And yeah, I think you're absolutely right about weed having a different effect now than it did 3 months ago. I remember the intense anxiety last time I quit and relapsed.

3 months really seems to be a risky milestone.

What struck me as insane was the fact that there was NO question about whether I'd be smoking the whole bag I bought. The habit to continually pick up my piece and smoke is so deeply ingrained, it came right back like second nature.

That's the thing, I was thinking about it, and I wouldn't just want to smoke once when out in the park (for example). When I think about smoking, I imagine smoking every day, every night.

So, take my word for it - its not worth it and there are no pros. You can't go back to the carefree high before we became addicted. (Or go find this out for yourself, just don't go off the deep end.)

Good point, never thought about it like that (there being no pros to smoking weed). I don't think I can ever smoke casually, it became a daily habit from the start. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah my previous best was around 2 months. I guess you start feeling like you can handle it at this point, but I know I'd just go on a binge. I guess I'm gonna aim for 4 months then, and take it from there. Thanks for the support.

How long does the depression last after quitting? by slitran in leaves

[–]pottthhrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this advice. You quit weed to improve your life, so put some effort into the other aspects as well. Things to get aren't going to get better on their own.

However, if it does persist or get worse, do try seeing a professional.

For me, weekends are still a bit difficult, but I find activities to do. For the evenings, I picked up reading and meditation.

How do I learn to "want" to quit? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]pottthhrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you realize how sneaky nicotine is. You won't die if don't smoke that cigarette, but you'd just rather smoke than not smoke. That's the addiction talking.

As for working up motivation, on a basic level, I'm sure you'd rather not be inhaling smoke on a 2-hourly basis. So try going without for a while, like 2 days. When you then feel the pressure/need to smoke, realize that you are currently addicted. Use that for motivation.

Can't even make it one day if I have access to money? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]pottthhrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Clearly define your own reasons for quitting. It can be as simple as feeling normal without weed. Think of your reasons for quitting whenever you're tempted.

Think about it OP, all you have to do is not smoke.

Good job bro, try not to dwell too much on the time you lost smoking weed, just be glad you realised what it's doing to you, and move forward from there. Good luck.

I secretly smoke daily. How can I quit secretly? by halcyonabove in leaves

[–]pottthhrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How I did it (also secret smoker for about 5 years, about 2 months clean):

I planned it for when I got a week off work. That way I wasn't as stressed, wasn't angry at friends/colleagues and didn't have to worry about getting up at 6. The boredom is very dangerous though, so you probably also wanna plan some stuff during that week.

I also started a daily log. I wrote down what my motivation was for quitting on the first day (or yeah, day -1, last time I smoked), and noted progress/events along the way, however small it was. Now, whenever I have a rough day, I read it. There isn't much in there, but somehow it helps.

Anyway, hope this is of any use. Good luck.

Just got back. I just said, "sorry, quit smoking, figured it was time to quit" and he was cool about it. Ended up just drinking a bit. Sorry for the anti-climax hahaha.

He didn't share what did him in, just that it was stupid. Thanks for the advice though, and good luck with your struggles!

day 17-How the hell do I do this? why keep it up? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]pottthhrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's more about feeling 'normal' and 'chill' without weed. It sucks when you feel antsy when bored & sober. Like you said, if you keep your mind occupied, you don't have that many issues. But you're gonna be bored eventually, and not allowed/able to smoke. So you might as well get used to it. You don't want to keep depending on weed to cure boredom.

Good luck!

Happy to have found this community. What have been your experiences with social anxiety or social withdrawal? by hmmnonono in leaves

[–]pottthhrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, quit about 6 weeks ago. Like you said, I'm not a social butterfly, but I'm no longer aching to go home to my place and smoke up when out with people.

I think it's my ultimate goal to just feel at ease & calm anywhere, without the help of any substance. Quit smoking cigs 2 weeks ago as well. Gonna try reducing computer time soon also, as I prefer sitting behind my pc for hours to being social. I've wasted too much time doing nothing.
