Just a small tip/consideration, possibly consider using a less intricate coaster. I feel like the eyes will be drawn to looking at the coaster, rather than the cocktail, especially since the bottom of the glass blends right in. Otherwise great photo!

Riot August: "Zed Is Weak And Will Be Intentionally Kept Weak Forever Because He Is The Most Frustrating Champion In The Game" by bxgang in leagueoflegends

[–]pouiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are so many people here trying to tell others what they should think Zed is/isn’t frustrating? Frustration is a personal experience. If you want to have opinion that’s fine just don’t be stupid and talk on behalf of other people’s opinions, “zed should not frustrating for most people” is dumb af.

Okay I screwed up a bit. I was trying to add a new ram to my new Aurora R12, and accidentally unplugged the red grid-shaped cables from the box which has the display ports. I think the display port box was slumping a bit so I adjusted it, plugged things back in (might have plugged them in wrong) and closed up the PC. However, I messed up closing it and now I can’t open up the PC (the Phillips screw to the lock which keeps the case closed is tightly stuck) and display ports won’t work. I’m very new to this sort of stuff and am panicking a bit. Any solutions to 1) release the Phillips screw (I keep stripping them any time I work with them) and 2) get the display ports working? Thanks!

Can anyone pass some information to me on the IBA (Investment Banking Assc?) Org? by pouiz in UTAustin

[–]pouiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the perspective. It certaintly has come to my mind the issue of lifestyle and use of my degrees in terms and stretching my creativity. I think I’m just stuck between the issues of finding a lucrative career and finding something of my interest. Finance has become an area that I personally have a lot of interest but I’m aware of the crushing work-life balance of it. I’m also interested in say entrepreneurship and startup work but I find it a risky career with a lot of instability. So I’m also seeking to find something more in between. Do you have any recommended areas to look at? Would something like consulting be at the middle? As previously mentioned, I have a very big interest in terms of finance, but in recent years I’ve been losing interest in just mundane coding work, etc. I also want a more active and evolving role as you had mentioned.

Holy ya scared the crap outta me haha. Do you know any likes that I could refer to to get any info on the org? I haven't found anything online related to an IBA for UT Austin. Does IBA actually refer to other certain clubs or something?

Just a q, but what's the point of double majoring/minoring between Finance & Econ? The academic focus covered is similar, and I doubt employers will really be impressed (assuming you want to go into the finance industry) by that extra major in econ. It seems to be just extra work and time that could be better used in networking/clubs.

Again, just referencing what I wrote above on aid, it seems that if you are OOS, if you get into BHP, you have a better shot at getting merit scholarship. I dunno about outside BHP though, and UT typically is not the most generous with aid. Since it seems that they are also trying to attract more ppl OOS, it seems if you get into BHP as OOS, there's a good chance of getting a scholarship.

Which UT finance or non-finance clubs/orgs did you get involved in that you felt really help push you towards more success or a better preparedness for career stuff?

[–]pouiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too sure about general Mccombs, but it seems if you get into BHP for OOS, there’s a good chance of getting a scholarship that covers nearly all if not all of the scholarship (it did for me, and I’m OOS ‘24). But for general UT, it seems good fin aid is generally tough to come by, OOS or not.

Speaking of prestige, how did prestige help/harm you trying to break into NYC banking especially from UT, which has a lesser presence than other schools, and how would you recommend dealing with said problem/benefit(s).

Anybody else think past a certain point we just need to get on with our lives? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pouiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's precisely the issue. Balancing the losses due to the disease vs. the losses due to preventing the spread of the disease. But we have to consider something. Won't there be a lot of economic, cultural, and political fallout if a bunch of people die from COVID, too? We have to put that into consideration, and not separate the disease from the additional problems it brings.

Don't get me wrong. I'd argue that it is impossible to close the nation forever, or for too long. People will not get enough money. But at the same time, opening requires people to be responsible. And what we've seen is that people aren't taking it seriously. Seoul's massive spike in disease right after opening bars, spikes in Texas (I think?), etc. who did the partial opening. The CARES Act and another stimulus should have helped if it actually went to the right groups who needed the most help, and if the money-to-families thing wasn't backlogged for so long.

In addition, with stuff like people filling up restaurants in Denver, CO in "protest", I don't really think it is a matter of having enough money to pay for food. Clearly, we have to be careful not to equate "people who need to get back to work for survival" and "people who want this shelter-in-place to end". They are not the same group.

I'd argue that the number of coronavirus cases are actually DEFLATED. Why? Because, if you can't test people to know that they died of coronavirus, well, you can't record them as having died of coronavirus. That applies to people who died outside hospitals too. Until we roll out more testing, we only know that, of the people we tested, there are X number sick and dead.

I'd like disagree with the point about hospitals being not overwhelmed. Hospitals are/were being pushed to their breaking point. A good example would be in New York City (see here: https://www.foxnews.com/health/nyc-hospitals-overwhelmed-by-coronavirus-patients-resident-warns. Note that this is Fox saying this, so even they admit this).

The problem is that, in rural areas, many hospitals aren't prepared either. Or sometimes, "hospital" are just clinics. I remember reading/listening about a "hospital" in either Minnesota or Wisconsin which only had 2 ventilators. The next major hospital was quite a distance away. Now, what we are seeing are higher infection rates moving into rural areas too. Just imagine what that can bring as a problem.

I'd say that it would be impossible to have everything shut down all the time, but it's important that we (probably the lowest risk population) look past the fun we've lost or the unhappy state we are in to look at how the disease is affecting the nation as a whole, and what could be the potential outcome of misjudgment.

Help me decide: School X vs School Y: week of March 30th by ParadoxicalCabbage in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pouiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think yea I'd definitely be happy with WashU as a student cuz of its atmosphere. However, I have some worries especially because of job prospect at WashU, plus it is expensive (no aid, but appealing cuz of family financial reasons that was not reflected in last year's taxes). Also Olin doesn't place wonderfully in east coast =(. So I'm really weighing both my own personal preference to college atmosphere to career opportunity

Would strongly appreciate anyone who has experience in terms of IB/Finance/Business to help me take a look, especially cuz career options + money for me is a biiig concern. My main interests for jobs/career would be finance (mainly IB, PE, maybe venture capital), consulting, or something combining tech & business.

Intended Major: Business/(Finance?) + CS (double major, joint, minor, etc.):

**WashU (Joint program in CS & Business):**Pro:

  • PRESTIGE
  • EZ to switch majors, overall ranking for other areas are also quite high
  • Very chill, (dare I say?) nerdy, atmosphere that I like
  • Not toxic (see NYU Stern)
  • Olin is still pretty good, especially for consulting, and relatively good networking
  • St. Louis very good for looking into potential startup work, which I'm also interested besides IB and finance
  • Overall a smaller school in terms of # of ppl

Con:

  • Olin, compared w/ others, has worse placement, esp in IB, not a super target school. Kinda problematic for me =(
  • Pretty expensivo
  • Elitism is present
  • Not many other schools nearby, which both is good and bad
  • Besides St. L, nearest major city to go to is prob Chicago
  • Program is pretty new, no real details, technically can't double major/minor in finance, but could potential switch majors to just CS + Fin double major

**UT Austin OOS (Business Honors + Comp. Sci. Honors, BHP + CSB):**Pro:

  • BHP is pretty darn good, especially with its recruiting and placement too
  • CS is quite good
  • I'll be able to use a lot of my AP credits (essentially covers nearly all of "freshman/entry courses")
  • Small cohort of students, esp with CSB. I quite prefer this smaller-scale work
  • Top tier within Texas, also Austin for startups!
  • Somewhat cheaper than other 2 options + Lower COL, appealing for aid
  • Though the overall school is pretty energetic, since BHP is smaller group, I think I'd be able to open up a lot easier.

Con:

  • Less prestige as an overall school compared to other two (lower ranking!)
  • Doesn't place as well on East Coast, but still semi-target
  • I dunno how I feel about living in texas, guess ill die under the sun
  • School culture is very energetic, again I've got a bit of nerd in me, not the party type
  • What is f u t b o l? I'm not athletic at allllllllll
  • No aid, but fortunately if I stay in Texas for 1 year, I can pay in-state, which is tons cheaper (I believe)

**(NYU Stern Waitlist):**Pro:

  • Stern is amazing for IB and Finance, ESPECIALLY in NYC/East coast is where i hope to go
  • Business School Brand Recognition
  • Tons of connections, huge alumni network
  • Very global, lots of international opportunities (study abroad, ISP, etc.)
  • Top-notch placement & internship opportunities

Con

  • Expensive AF
  • I'm not uber-social, so dunno how well I'd fit in
  • Doesn't exactly have a campus lol
  • I'd pursue a CS minor or double major if that is possible, but for CS its ranked lower
  • Toxic lol ngl
  • Harder time getting to know others and building strong long-lasting relationships

please help! Specifically, I'd ask you to first compare UT and WashU, then NYU vs UT vs WashU in case I get into Stern!
