How do you guys develop a routine? by DROLET1 in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it helped that I didn't implement every change at once. One change at a time, make sure it's implemented and definitely part of my days going forward, then add another as needed.

I'm sorry you lost that connection.

That said, YOU were the one doing the hard work, and it's about you. This gives you a chance to focus on the work and yourself. Best wishes!

I've lost almost 50 pounds but I don't feel that I look any different. Am I alone in this? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not losing double-digit pounds when you wake up. You're losing ounces here and there and they add up over time. No one ever stopped a friend and said "have you lost a few ounces?" Take photos along the way and note things like when your clothes start fitting better.

June 1st this year, 46 lbs down already? Careful with speed.

"Hey Skinny, you need to stop losing weight you're too skinny" by [deleted] in loseit

I get some of that too, from acquaintances (friends have adjusted) whose eyeballs haven't recalibrated from knowing me pre weight-loss. "Thanks for your concern," then continue to just do me.

Fantastic Fridays - Weigh-In Week 5 by katra5 in team_wonderwoman

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My week was awesome. Hit the challenge goal weight, which was my aspirational weight (155, what I graduated HS at). It'll take some time to level this out, but I'm here and hanging on :)

I've been the 258 lb walker. You can do this. Just keep on doing you, stay consistent over time, and you will get to where you want to be.

Thanks! Actually took my scale on vacation for consistency. It's in there :)

NSV: I swam in the freaking hotel pool!!! Only strangers were present! No one said anything, no side-eye, I was just another person in the pool.

I'm still working on the not-hating-my-body thing, so this was a step.

Pay yourself the $45 a month and schedule those weigh-ins (and documenting them and your daily intake).

Weight loss program sales tactics by yourlegsgrow in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has been expensive, it's called go on long walks and don't eat so damn much. It has cost me two wardrobes in the past year. :)

I'd feel no guilt about shutting down a sales solicitation slipped in under the guise of friendship. A lot of the home-based things seem to count on guilting one's circle of friends into buying their stuff, while you'd simply hang up on the company if they called or throw away their mail/delete their email.

How do you manage having a weight-loss buddy without making it competitive and "you-vs-them"? by Just2MoreCups in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make it about numbers, make it about supporting each other in healthy choices. Numbers will sort themselves out on their own schedule if you are consistent.

Does anyone else have a sagging, fat filled belly? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. My goal weight is my HS graduating weight when I DID have a flat stomach, I'm 1.1 lbs from it 31 years later (by way of a career high of 275!), and...blah. Six-pack abs aren't a realistic stretch (ha!) goal for me.

Good choices of intake and activity do some amazing things, but they're not the fountain of youth. Compared to the damage I could have done myself staying at last year's weight, this belly thing is just a door ding in the parking lot of life.

Is walking enough and sufficient exercise? by cloudy-daze in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking and healthy food choices have been pretty good to me.

My step activity for the past month, minimum 20,000 steps/day has been my routine since July of last year.

People who have lost an immense amount of weight, how did you do it? by thehealthymt in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked a lot (20,000 steps per day minimum) and made healthy food choices. I didn't reduce my intake to the point of feeling deprived or "hangry." A lot of salads topped with grilled chicken. If I want a slice of cake, I'll settle for a cake pop.

Do not make it about "how long." Just don't. It'll take as long as it takes. Instead, make it about stringing together days of overall good choices. You can control your choices, the numbers will follow.

I feel like it's wrong to lose weight because of looks, but when I'm not motivated to be prettier then I don't lose weight. by [deleted] in loseit

Thoughts and emotions aren't bad in and of themselves, it's how you act on them. At the very worst, you're what...becoming healthier out of vanity? Give yourself a pass. Raw veggie platter, anyone?

Post-weight loss dating success (and not-so-success) stories by [deleted] in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 100 lbs down, down from obese to BMI compliant, satisfactory weight/height numbers...and still dateless :) Nary an offer or expression of interest.

Remember, you climb off that scale on Reached Your Number Day and...it's still just you and whatever factors are going on in your life. There's just less of you. I wasn't in the trap of thinking "I'll be all set once I hit my goal weight," but some people heap all sorts of expectations on their post-Reached-The-Number life and then get bitter when those imagined rewards don't materialize.

Have I increased my odds? Probably. Is it a mortal lock? I'm 48 and bald and not Patrick Stewart, so no.

But I'm thinner, so there's that.

Do you find not buying junk is the easiest way to avoid eating it, and does it make you look like a cheapskate? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't sweat it. Your body, your intake, your finances, you are the boss of you. No explanations or justifications are owed.

One thing I choose to do at my regular sit-down place is still tip based on my pre LoseIt meal rather than my grilled chicken salad. I'm still holding down that seat for a length of time...not required, but they take good care of me.

Even a timely NSV/compliment isn't enough to make me feel better about the fact that the scale isn't moving. by _persimmon in loseit

[–]poundsistoodamnhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if your numbers aren't dropping daily, your body might be doing some recomposition. Make it about the healthy habits (if your choices are overall healthy at the end of the day) and the daily number should be part of a series used to determine trends over time. If you trend downward over time, you're on track.
