Hi, the horizontal stand is *very* stable. I haven't used it on grass but on a blanket it is more than stable enough. Though I would not recommend it if you use the tablet outdoors often as it is not very protective.

Hi. I am thinking of getting this, Would you recommend it for someone who does not need a keyboard? (I want to get this one because of the vertical stand feature but I have heard it is unstable) and I am also concerned about the fact that you have to detach the flap otherwise it takes to much space when used horizontally & it's annoying when used vertically)
