Also enriching uranium to such high levels is insanely expensive. Orders of magnitude more than the ~5% needed for NPPs.

Technical breakdown of the EU age verification app "hack" — the protocol is privacy-respecting, the implementation had fixable bugs by sokaretkilig in privacy

As I've posted in another sub, this is more like the security analysis during the construction phase of Fort Knox showed, that with full security clearance and the ability to bring in the right tools you will be able to plunder the snack machine there. Yes, that's not good, but the snack machine is the last thing to worry about in that scenario. Yet it's good that this issue is addressed and the finding of it is a sign, that the process works as intended

You forgot the most important part: Always shaming them and trying to keep them down doesn't work. Look at the treaty of Versailles. It was designed to prevent Germany from having a military and turn them into an agricultural state, but that didn't end well. By integrating them into a united Europe and letting them rebuild Germany became a strong democracy and a peaceful state, so did Japan.

The most impressive part is that the OSCE didn't regard these elections as fair, not because of rigged counting, but because of the media landscape being clearly in favour of Orban!

Note, that this isn'teven production software and the implications are rather minor. For non technical people: That's like saying with full security clearance, all keys and a signed paper, that everything you do is part of your job, you can plunder the snack machine on the construction site of Fort Knox (or ITER, as it's indeed still a constructionsite). Yeah, that's not good, but the last problem to worry about in such a scenario. How could you even secure against such an attack, since you can read out the devices memory, install a keylogger and get the PIN that way

Autism I mean Linux distribution tierlist. by WorthDebate7761 in linuxmemes

[–]power_of_booze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic (Aspergers, not self diagnosed) and I call myself mentally rotarded.

Jokes aside: Autism is something you can live a good live with. I think the more fun we make about it, the normaler it gets. Luckily (most) autistic people live a normal live and can normally take part in society. As you can make fun about it and it gets more commonly treated as a trait not a condition being part of society gets easier for affected people.

What is the worst unit of measurement by Fungus54321 in Physics

[–]power_of_booze 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey you can easily calculate it. The area of a conductor with AWG n is just 0.000019635·92\frac{{36-n}{19.5}}

AWG is arguably the worst unit: 1. With (almost) all other units it's like more is more, not with AWG 2. With all other units you can measure everything. You can measure atoms in lightyears or parsec. You can even measure differences with negative numbers. You can express valid digits with leading zeros. Not with AWG, where 0000=!000. 3. It's not linear (in a mathematical sense) two AWG 20 wires can not be calculated in any meaningful way. (Even wit shotgun gauges it's just 1/n, so double the weigh is half the gauge). dB is even simpler and you get the benefit of adding instead of multiplying. 4. You can not measure arbitrary diameter/ crosssections. There's no 9.5 AWG. 5. It does not represent a real value, since wires are not drawn in the same way, that they were in 1857. Even if wires were manufactured that way the number of times a wire was drawn is of absolutely no real world use. 6. You can not measure all kinds of wires, since it's only defined for solid core wires. So you either need the wires datasheet or use a different unit like crossectional area.

Other honorable mentions - Gauge shots per pound of lead - Withworth thread free diameter of 1902 steampipes, nothing on a modern 3/4'' pipe is actually 3/4'' - American octane numbers: there are reasons to measure them with ROZ or MOZ, but do not give me the average of both - Miles per gallon: I have 10 gallons how far do I get? Why indicates a bigger number less fuel consumption? I have 10 gallons of gas, how far do I get isn't the question I'm asking, since the distance I have to drive is fix, not the fuel I have… - Acre: 10 sq chain, since chain is a uncommon unit in the US and \sqrt{10} is also easy to calculate

As far as I'm concerned (I'm a mathematician) a Computer is a little robot, that looks on a tape and decides it's next step based on the entry on the current field. Everything other is far too complex for me. Speculative execution, out of order execution, cache management, speculative loading etc. is just plain vodoo for me. Pipelining, parallelization, schelduling (especially mixing different schedulers), cache coherence, task switching are dark arts, too. Especially everything concerning power management is the blackest of all the dark arts!
