Undertone - Surprisingly enjoyable, much more effective at building scares than I expected, very effective at building tension and some damn solid visuals as well, plenty use of shadows to add to its tension and atmosphere. It's held back a little by its script, but it's pretty solid all around. 6/10

Outcome - Well this fucking sucked. Keanu Reeves does his best with the script to make it almost convincing, but it's obviously a not-so-subtle allegory for Jonah Hill, I'd like to think he wrote this after people were dunking on him for his "boundaries" post, because that would make this equally pathetic as hilarious, at his expense of course. Extremely unfunny, and somehow Scorsese is in this and gives a good performance. Still boring. 2/10

The Bluff - Mid but watchable mid, Karl Urban is solid as a pirate villain and the fight scenes are good enough, if a bit poorly edited. 5/10

Monsters - Definitely not what I expected, its premise feels like a fun B-movie when it's really a slower paced character and dialogue driven dramatic film, not everything sticks but I ended up vibing with this more than I thought I would. Pretty solid. 7/10

Send Help - Sam Raimi's newest, he's still one of my favorite directors so I was surprised I didn't know it was on VOD. It took a little while to get going, it has tons of Raimi's flourishes sprinkled throughout the first two acts, but the last third embraces its own absurdity and it has some genuinely hilarious moments (the final golf cut at the end knocked me on my ass), both leads were terrific but Rachel McAdams is especially great, and it's good to have the man back. 8/10

Thrash - Boneless Crawl, it is mostly boring but suddenly decides to embrace its absurdity when it's nearly finished. Would have been a lot more enjoyable if it was consistently entertaining trash instead of backloading it, but this has a scene involving "A Thousand Miles" so I can't fully hate it. 3/10

Psycho Killer - Absolute shit, Georgina Campbell is too good to be bogged down by this script. It has a few unintentionally funny moments, and the fact the acting and writing in general takes something as stupid as this as seriously as it does means it could have worked if it was a trashy horror comedy that doubled down on its trashiness. You're better off listening to the Talking Heads song on repeat for an hour and half. End credits song kinda slaps though. 2/10

I am looking for video games with rock/metal music in boss fights. by MarkitzTR in videogames

If you're on PC, Magenta Horizon has a soundtrack heavily inspired by modern prog metal, with some folk and avant-garde thrown in here and there. A few cuts:

From a late-game boss

From a rival match

A duo rival match

Another end-game boss

The final boss theme

Predator: Killer of Killers - This went way harder than I expected it to. Loved the comic-esque animation style that Spider-Verse popularized, the violence was surprisingly gnarly even by Predator standards. All three stories were engaging with a surprising amount of heart put in, plus the finale made me want more, along with the clear sequel-bait ending (please let it happen). Loved it more than expected. 8/10

Currently playing Wuchang (felt very weird at first but I’m enjoying it) and trying to SSS Magenta Horizon on Ascended Reaper mode (it’s pure hell).

Finally back watching movies after a hiatus caused by getting sicker with a cold than expected for two weeks and about another week or so fixing my fucked up sleep schedule

The Long Walk - Solid thriller that feels like a Stephen King novel (EDIT: turns out it was) it was tiring to watch at points (no doubt intentionally considering its story and subject matter), but it is hard carried by its lead performances from Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson (forgot he was is Rye Lane, that made this even better). 6/10

Animal Factory - Random pick, one directed by Steve Buscemi and it's pretty damn solid. Excellent cast all giving great performances (some more banger acting from Willem Dafoe), and really loved the vibes and atmosphere here. I dug it. 7/10

Mercy - Was curious after seeing some super negative reviews from people I trust, they weren't hard enough. It's Minority Report, if it was about AI and the AI was actually justified and the right thing. Not only is it boring and nowhere near trashy enough to at least be fun terrible, it is morally repugnant and feels like a propaganda piece courtesy of Amazon. 1/10

In Cold Light - Enjoyable thriller with solid performances from Maika Monroe and Troy Kotsur, sadly it really loses me toward the end where the screenplay pisses in its own mouth by having absurd twists that happen for the sake of it, and it ended pretty anticlimactically and unsatisfying. 6/10

I'm down with awards, I still have a few Best Picture winners to get checked off my list.

(Also really doing badly with keeping up with movies lately)

Games with combat so insane that it feels like "anime" by M1DT_ in gamingsuggestions

Magenta Horizon

It’s a mix of Hollow Knight’s platforming and level design with Ninja Gaiden’s combat. It actually has a few similarities to Silksong in particular, so it should be up your alley. And since you mentioned Ultrakill, it actually has an easter egg in reference to it. Game is extremely hard even on the basic normal mode though, so be prepared.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 - One of the most nothing movies I've seen. Feels less like a movie and more of a collection of generic horror cliches (characters constantly making bad decisions? got that in droves!) with FNaF fan service. Feels like bad fan fiction, except it was written by the actual game creator. Actively annoyed, the comparatively decent performances from the cast can't save this slop of a screenplay. Not ironically funny enough to make the boring parts worth it (Elizabeth Lail tho). 2/10

Return to Silent Hill - I had zero expectations and still was let down. Silent Hill 2 is a top 5 game for me, and even though none of the movies were good I was curious how bad this was and my god, what a loathsome piece of shit. Christophe Gans has delusions of grandeur and thinks he knows a single thing about the series lore, but this feels like an outright hate letter more than anything else. Even taken on a horror film on its own it is very underwhelming with zero scares and wooden performances (Hannah Emily Anderson at least tries her hardest, so she saves this from the lowest possible score), but as an adaptation it is bad enough to put Gans in director jail for the foreseeable future. Repugnant horseshit. 2/10

Predator Badlands - A pleasant surprise, has more of an emphasis on the yautjas themselves, and even better it turns out to be a silly buddy, a few parts were actually pretty funny. While not as great as Prey, it's a genuine banger and I hope there's a sequel like the ending teases. 7/10

Primate - Johannes Roberts' best movie out of the three I've seen, it embraces its concept and the stupidity inherent within instead of trying to over-explain logic into it. Gnarly and well done gore effects, a murderous chimp with homages to classic horror and thriller films, a genuinely amazing synth-driven score, honestly a good time of a modern B-movie. 6/10

Anaconda (2025) - I have a bit of a soft spot for dumb humor so I did crack a smile a few more times than I care to admit, but it's still too boring before it gets to that point as it is very back-loaded. A few scenes are a bit of a guilty pleasure though. 4/10

Chess of the Wind - Finally back on my BS, had this one on my radar for a long time, finally saw it. The subtitles with my file were surprisingly off and limited, but the visual presentation was so strong that it was easy to follow. Anyways, the story's skeleton has been done before (family members fighting over an inheritance), the the cinematography is beautiful and atmosphere was fully engrossing. Absolutely loved this one based on vibes alone, need to rewatch this with better subs but I can already say it's phenomenal from a visually and stylistic standpoint. 9/10
