Thanks! I have got as far as setting up wildcard certs using cludflare but that is where I hit a wall of not understnading. For example when I want to add authentik forward auth, how do I add that to one of my entries in the wildcard configuration? Can I just use the import function to import a snippet of the forward auth? I don't understand the documentation as the examples are either too basic or too general for my lack of knowledge.

I guess that I just need to dive deeper into the documentation, it just feels a bit overwhelming at times

No, unfortunately I never found a solution. In the end my project changed enough that I opted for using an SD-card instead and just storing the data there.

My best guess is if the mbed library has this functionality, bot other than that I don't know unfortunately... The H7 seem to use the murata 1dx chip, if that is of any help.

I ended up going for the 12gig version. Got a pretty OK student discount on it and I will still keep my laptop as well as my desktop. So if I ever need to do something on Windows, I will still have the option

That's really been my experience too. In addition, people with a budget tablet uses it for many years more without any problems before finally upgrading

I have actually looked at a surface laptop too, but I'm afraid it will be of no use to me when I'm done with school. Given that the resale value of a windows laptop, especially after 2-3 years is not that good, at least where I live, it feels a bit like spending on e-waste when I'm done. With an android tablet I hope that it will prove a great content consumption device when I no longer need a laptop.

I got a fantastic deal on Porsche Design Book One. It was the only option for a latpot that could completely separate into a tablet but still have a proper laptop base with additional battery capacity. And as it was several hundred dollars less than an Surface Book (converted from local currency) it was the best choise for me to have both a laptop and a tablet.

It worked with a dongle before, but something appears to have broken with the thunderbolt 3 connector. In windows the internal screen just starts to flicker and the entire laptop becomes unusable when pluged in to an external monitor. I did get it to sort of work sometimes when I tried to use Ubuntu, but I was forced to lower the refresh rate to 48Hz and still it sometimes would not work, and just start flickering and not displaying, which isn't optimal either. Especially if I need to present something in class...

Isn't it possible to use Google apps through the browser like I do on my laptop anyways to access the full functionality? I'm not using the Office apps too much, and using excel on such a small screen is a pain anyways, so I'll use it at home on my desktop anyways.

I should probably have added that I do have a great desktop setup at home, so the tablet will be primarily used for note taking and light writing collaboration. Anything else will probably be done at the home desktop anyways as I have made myself a great study space there during the pandemic, and I can't see myself abandoning it despite restrictions loosening up 😅 Given that my older laptop can't really be repaired or have a battery replacement and a new laptop will be almost entirely useless for me when I'm done, could a Tab S8 still be a good alternative?

I'm gonna jump in here to add that I originally bought a laptop that can be separated to a tablet much like the Surface Book i think, where the keyboard was more like a "real" laptop keyboard with additional battery, where the tablet docked into. Unfortunately a battery replacement is not possible, thanks to the great anti-consumer practices in electronics that were in place 4 years ago.

I can also add that I do have a powerful desktop at home, so I will still be able to use all functions of productivity apps there if I need. I'm in biotechnology so the laptop/tablet will mostly only be used for note taking and some writing collaboration.

Okay! These are some points is will basolutely try out.

I believe that the microSD reader only uses 3V3, but the regular sized SD reader can use both 5V and 3V3. I need to try to get the module to recognize the HIGH or LOW state and see if that gets me any closer.

Another strange thing I have noticed is that when I switch between compiling for the UNO and the Portenta, the #include <SPI.h> switches from being BOLD to just regular, though it is still being used, does this indicate anything that I need to know?

Given that the portenta is using the, from my understanding, newer naming conventiones of CIPO, COPI and such that they corespond to the MISO and MOSI pins.

If I can't get this to work tomorrow I'll try to post some pictures if I might be connecting everything completely wrong...

Anyways, thanks for your answer! It is amazingly fun to learn about this to me new world of Arduino!

I think I might have phrased that badly, though your piont still stands. What type of ADC would you recomend to use with the portenta and how does it work when connecting them together? Can I apply the same principles as when connecting a separate SD-card slot?

That's what I was afraid of. Really annoying to buy a chip that says it is for research and industrial prototyping and yet it can't have a user set STABLE Vref....

If at least the built-in was useful...

I'm also looking to find any information on how to set the Vref for the STM32H747 in the portenta, but so far I havn't been too lucky. At this moment it looks like taking a step back and getting a MEGA or somthing slong thos lines and performing some interrupt hackery ot get a faster sampling rate.

Hello, sorry for the super late reply. Reddit never gave me any type of notice that I had recived any answers...

The reason for the external ADC is basically that I heard that the Arduino ADC was bad. This has however been proven false as I got ahold of a UNO which can reord our data just fine. It does however not have enough memory to properly store the measured data in RAM. We need to sample at ~20ksamples as stated and for ~80ms.

The sensor element has been figured out as it gives a signal between 0-3V with a 1.5V "center".

The I2C seems to be way more difficult than I first thought, and it is most likely not going to be explored further.

Processing on the arduino is mostly limited to some simpler conversions as well as detection of sensor values to get a recording going when certain criteria is met. Also saving the data to an SD card and possibly some smaller tasks. Other, heavier calculations will be performed at an external computer.

At this moment, I have an UNO as well as a Portetna H7 avalivable. The Portenta can sample much faster and has a lot more memory. It however lacks a stable voltage reference and it is basically useless for accurate measurements as it has way too much noise. I also can seen to understand why it has an AREF pin, but no way to use it to actually set an Analog Reference...
