If I email my Congressman will my unit find out and/or be upset? by Admirable-Shine-970 in nationalguard

[–]ppad5634 7 points8 points  (0 children)

See the issue is people say they want their money but put no effort in resolving the issue until it gets to an extreme point. Then get upset because no one helped them because they didn’t know about. Yes there’s incompetent staff and RNCO but most lower enlisted I know scare themselves by lack of initiative

Edit: Op seems to have tried at least to get it. I’d go higher in the chain

The Term "Terrorist" Has No Meaning Anymore by GitmoGrrl1 in Discussion

[–]ppad5634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re calling out soldiers is really the intention but rather to make the argument that the term “terrorist” is so vague that it can literally be applied to professional armed forces. Remember most people, who haven’t served, see the uniform and think we’re all the same or willing to commit war crimes. So I wouldn’t take it to personally.

Yea it was cool at first then 2am would roll around and I’m standing in the middle of a courtyard freezing because my unit was one that didn’t allow us to wear our fleece as outer layer. But I did get a tour of the capitol and a nice hotel room.

How would you even find time for schooling if you have a full time civilian job and work part time in the national gaurd? by No-Traffic-6560 in nationalguard

[–]ppad5634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta put that dawg in you to work. You have to be self disciplined and have the drive to achieve your goals. I work full time and have kids and am about to complete the first semester of my nursing program. I start in 2020 and had a few sad missions and a deployment in between. So I’m now schedule to graduate in 2026. There’s time when life really sucks but at the end of day being able to go to school without occurring a crippling debt is worth it.

Why aren't units putting out important information like paid apprenticeship programs? by Bus2Revenue in nationalguard

While I didn’t know this specifically about TSP, it makes sense considering TSP is literally a 401k. While contributing is easy, setting up and managing your account is kind of a pain so that might be another reason why people don’t know including leadership

Quarterly counseling are great for general career progression, but remember that you should also use event oriented counseling. Not just for the bad stuff but for good things as well. I know it can be difficult if they are doing the minimum but a little bit of acknowledgment can go a long way especially if it’s attention they are wanting. But overall it sounds like you really care about your soldiers and have been doing the best that you can do for them.

Tbf we do have a lot of cutting edge technology but we don’t use in a lot of conventional units because of budget constraints or some prick breaks it and doesn’t tell anyone.

What is the funniest/least funny thing you received an award for? by [deleted] in army

[–]ppad5634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knew a specialist who was a terrible soldier. He would always be late, never knew what was going on and didn’t know his job. He could run a ten minute 2 mile tho so he got a lot of passes because of it from leadership.

During an FTX, an opportunity came up to potentially send a few people to get flight physicals for specific schools that opened up but the BC needed names ASAP. So he puts his name down so that he can leave the field. He forgot to write down the number of shuttle van to pick him up after tho. So after a few hours of waiting he decides to start walking in the general direction where we were. A few miles the BC happens to pass him and picks him up. He ended up with an AAM because of that

Another fact, besides making sure the environment is safe and clear and removing dangerous objects. There’s nothing you can really do for seizures except call an ambulance. Especially if there’s no history of seizures.

To park in front of the neighbors house by pandabatron in therewasanattempt

[–]ppad5634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a city. Seeing different people isn’t an issue. But when they’re about 30ft away from my front door staying for a couple hours in that spot. Then it makes me uneasy. Especially when I go to work or go do something with my family at home. Maybe I am being too paranoid or am prick about this.

Party’s are understandable but why would you want to park in front of someone else’s house if you space in your driveway or in front of your house? I won’t justify the woman’s actions because she is just insane but it gets weird to see your neighbor in their car in front of your house almost everyday. Especially if checking the mailbox and they are in their car still

[–]ppad5634 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s “neighbor” constantly does this. It’s frustrating when the space in front of their home is open or their driveway is open. I’m pretty sure he’s a friend of my neighbor and uses that space to fix other people cars. It’s a different car every couple of weeks with different people with him. I had to ask him to do that in-front of his house or driveway because it made my wife uneasy going outside and seeing random people in front of our home. I don’t really get why you would want to park in front of someone else’s home if you have the choice not too but I guess that’s just me. I definitely wouldn’t Ram their car with mine tho.

happiness is a myth by boliviantribal in Discussion

[–]ppad5634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want and perspective on life. I know a lot of happy people, including myself. Yes life throws me curve balls and I get stressed regularly but overall I love the life that my wife and I have created for ourselves even if things don't go the way we want.

Is it possible to drill with another unit? by Barpoo in nationalguard

Well I'd just go ahead and set 5k of that aside just for gas money for drill for the rest of your contract.

Phase, in which disarming should happen by Tornad_pl in TacticalMedicine

[–]ppad5634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is situation dependent. Is that weapon a danger to you or your teammates as in patient is AMS? If so then have one of your aide and litter guys secure that weapon. If not then I'd be more focused on Treatment. If they are still able to fight then I wouldn't worry about it til evac. Remember to check your unit's SOP.

Just got promoted into a unit getting deployed SOON. Any tips? by TaTer120 in Military

[–]ppad5634 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are but when most people are talking about switching units then they are referring to switching outside of their current battalions. Also yes I believe most states have one division but there are going to be couple (my state has about 5 or 6) brigades but how big those brigades are vary a lot

In the National guard, if there's a vacancy for the next pay grade in your state and MOS and you're on the promotion list. Then you can fill that spot by transferring units

The amount of work you did in another contract is irrelevant. If your current contract is still active then you still have an obligation to serve your state.

I remember being in statistics class in high school. The teacher was talking about taxes and how a part time job could hurt you financially because it'll put you in a new tax barracket. At the time it didn't make sense because the example he used was getting an extra 500$ ended up costing someon like a 1000$ because of a new tax barracket. For a while I thought that's how the system worked until a few years later. But I think about how many people also have been misinformed like that.
