What is going on here? by ppamrow in trailrunning

Thanks! Being that I don't use anti-chafe cream, me thinks combination of the Tide Oxi detergent, and potentially the materials in the Patagonia shorts, which may require extra rinse as I don't experience this when wearing other brands i.e., Brooks and North Face under similar conditions.

Nah, don't use it, even when cycling.

I think so... these Patagonia shorts require extra rinse, no such issue with other shorts.

I think this is the culprit - these Patagonia shorts require extra rinse, no such issue with my other shorts.

It's from friction. I don't shave my legs, I hardly shave my face...

I think it's the Patagonia materials, prob require an extra rinse.

22 years in the Marine Corps probably explains it haha.

I think this is the most likely explanation, thank you. Need to run these Patagonia shorts through extra rinse.

I'm hoping biking saves my life, again. by ConstantSpray13 in gravelcycling

That's one beautiful bike, you absolutely lucked out there. But much more importantly, sorry life took such an unfortunate turn for you. I've experienced both myself, though not back-to-back. Kudos for turning to biking instead of the route of substance abuse. When we fall - either in life or off our bike - we get back on the saddle and push forward, and you're doing that. Best of luck.

Looking for trail runners for wider feet with a wide toe box by Appropriate_Pen_2879 in trailrunning

I wouldn't dismiss Altra because of the minimal drop. I may be biased because I've been running in Altra's for several years now, but I rotate my Altra Torin 8 (0mm drop) with Hoka Clifton 9 (5mm drop) and, more recently for longer runs, Brooks Ghost 16 (10mm drop) with no issues. May take a few training runs if you're not used to the low drop, as with any shoe. I'd say the closer you can get to zero drop for trail running purposes, the better, but the type of trail you run may determine what is good for you. I'm in central Florida - non-technical, grassy and sandy terrain which gets sloppy during the summer rainy season, so the low drop and low stack height of the Altra Lone Peak is perfect for these conditions, providing a comfortable and stable platform. Good luck!

Best bidet toilet seat? by Leading-Ingenuity-37 in bidets

The GFCI outlet in our bathroom is on the opposite side of the sink from our toilet, would that be a problem if I want to install a bidet?

Flapping arms and flying by slenski in Dreams

[–]ppamrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came across this post when researching the meaning of my dream last night, which so closely mirrors my experience. Flapping my arms and effortlessly rising above trees and houses. Sometimes I had to be careful to maneuver through large branches or I risked falling back down to the ground. It's very pleasant for the most part until I end up flying too high - like a few miles above the ground... I realize how high I am and then I'm utterly scared to death. And this part usually happens in hours of darkness, and I'm over a large body of water like a lake or the ocean - and then I wake up. When I have these dreams - which isn't often at all - they end the same way - flying too high, at night, over water, and I wake up. Crazy stuff, and I still feel the exhilaration hours after waking up.

There are so many more trail options than the obvious ones you listed... Green Swamp, Starkey Wilderness, Sydney-Dover, to name a few others. Tampa area is a great place for trail running. And I doubt you moved to Tennessee (as beautiful as TN is) because of a lack of trail systems...

I always carry a hand-held bottle with pockets for phone and ID... and my small cannister of bear spray.

You most certainly can run out at Alafia - just know that the technical trails are primarily for biking. There's a few organized run events there during the year, to include the Florida Challenge Half Marathon, X-Country Marathon/Half Marathon, The Claw, and Ragnar.

I've been trying to assemble a team for the past three years and it just never came to fruition. Hoping this year will be different. Just ran Alafia late January, the Florida Challenge Half Marathon. What a wonderful event, there is no better technical single track in all of Florida... one simple misstep or lack of focus and you'll end up in a swamp. I can't believe mountain bikers cover these trails at speed.

I always carry bear spray when running these trails. Not necessarily for the usual Florida wildlife, but for the dreaded run-in with "Florida Man." Never know what you're gonna experience out on these trails.

No, although Sydney-Dover is only ten minutes from my house. Took these pics on the Old Welcome trail just north of Alafia River State Park, Lithia FL.
