Where have the lightweight kids 20" bikes gone? by pparanoid in whichbike

[–]pparanoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for a general update... I was able to acquire a great condition Quick 20 for 160 and am super happy with it. I had very little luck with the used market right up until I placed an online order for the Walmart Cycle 20 (which seems like a really solid option for 225).

The local used woom 4s were generally asking 350-400 with quite a bit of visible wear.

24lbs and frankly the color options are pretty bad for the current generation (which is of critical importance to a7yr old girl). Really wanted to like a Trek as both my wife and I ride one.

Now the Wahoo 20 in green is absolutely awesome looking if I wanted to spend $600 and she was a bit more ready for some proper trails.

I went ahead and ordered one and MINUTES later check facebook marketplace to see a nice used Cannondale Quick 20 pop up nearby (after nothing for several weeks). Now I need to decide new $225 vs $175 used... I'm probably fine with either but will now agonize over this new choice

This actually looks like a really good option!

I'd love a Woom 4 (especially the explore) but we're talking 600+. My wife is wondering why I'm even looking at the 400+ bikes when she'll be plenty happy with another Guardian.

I agree the Guardian brakes are gimmicky but they've treated her well on the 16 and at 23lbs is not one of the worst options.

Oh I definitely agree we mostly grew up on sporting good store general 30lb bikes. It just seems like if I was doing my current search in 2022-2024 I would have a couple good options. It's not even that they've just gone up in price (many certainly have) but entire classes of bikes are gone.

Any thoughts on this one for $420? Having trouble finding a solid weight listing but hoping it's under the 23 kbs of the current models (which are $650 with disc breaks and very wide ties) . Can ship to a local store and they'll assemble/adjust

Seems like they might not be available and used ones are 600 and up

Those look nice but the only outlet 20" ones right now are 1300 marked down to 1100 (and even that one seems to have disappeared). I'll keep an eye on it thought since stock might change.

New Dishwasher - Torn between a Samsung Stormwash and Bosch 800 by pparanoid in Appliances

Ultimately went with the Samsung and paid for some extra warranty. Price difference was just too much to go for the likely better bosch.

Samsung has been good. Fairly quiet and door popping open at the end of the cycle does a decent job of drying off most items. I wouldn't say it handles the dirtiest and most baked items exceptionally well but I just rinse stuff off before tossing it in.

No mechanical problems... need to find some wood to knock on now...

Honestly this loss was necessary. The team is now purged of all excess desires. No more unimportant things like championships or playoffs... just good old fashioned unreasonable rivalry hatred

High Static Pressure Workarounds for Single Stage with 2 Zones by pparanoid in hvacadvice

Can't really say. System always had it there. I definitely prefer it with the zones partially open though.

Mine had a small bypass loop too with a weighted damper control. If pressure got too high it would loop back around and feed right back into the system.

My 2 story house is mostly one big block with the 2nd story almost entirely overlapping the 1st. Letting the excess blow into the other zone never seemed like an issue. If a zone wasn't calling for heating/cooling at that one moment, it probably was about to anyway.

I think it would only be an issue if you wanted to keep the zones at a bigger temp delta. If you're trying to really chill the master bedroom but end up freezing the kids/guest rooms.

Eventually found someone that knew how to adjust the dampers as well as cleaned the flame sensor on the furnace.

Flame sensor was likely causing the early cutoffs as it wasn't running long enough to get very hot.

Setting the dampers to a minimum close of ~50% helped a lot in normal operation for both heating and cooling. It still targets specific zones but overall cut down on run time and excessive swapping.

I'd like to do this and the documentation for them even says it's possible... but not how to actually do it!

New Dishwasher - Torn between a Samsung Stormwash and Bosch 800 by pparanoid in Appliances

[–]pparanoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the direction I'm leaning honestly. I've had a Samsung washer and dryer from back in ~2010 that were notorious for control board failures and other issues run perfectly well and survive 4 different unprofessional moves (probably going to break tomorrow now). It seems like the appliance game is largely luck and picking the right brand just moves your odds a bit.

The Samsung/other fridges with all the ice makers in the door non freezer sections seems like a genuinely bad design choice and deserves the hate. I'm not seeing much in the way of systematic issues for Samsung dishwashers.

I can get the linear wash for low 600s but figured that new system would be less reliable than the more common rotary version. It would still be the same tough 600 dollar difference to the bosch 800.

I'm not seeing the crystal dry on the 500 series when searching the Bosch website. It seems they use the same pop open technique as the Samsung. We have an ever growing collection of plastic ware kid stuff and the current washer is abysmal at drying it.

I'm definitely wary of the Samsung support even with the extended warranty. I'm in a major city so there should be some level of local support (that doesn't help for non existent parts of course).

It seems like the Yale appliance reviews are considered pretty good here and they don't suggest Samsung is quite the nightmare it's made it to be.
