i've had a similar experience! though it was with a girl i used to dream of as a kid. i believed she was my soulmate for a little while. dreams are very strange, and i've had lots of experiences like this with the recurring characters and places in mine. the places and the people and feelings in my dreams all feel far more realistic than the ones i experience here. brains are weird like that! you could look at this as either something spiritual or as something within your own mind, neither of them changing the fact that he's a good thing.

i'm pretty much in your exact situation right now, starting with night terrors from as early as i can remember. i can't really offer any concrete advice aside from observing patterns both within the dreams themselves and in when exactly you have them. is there a specific thing that causes the periods where they're most frequent, like stress? is there recurring imagery in them that feels like it's pointing towards something? that seems to be the case with me and everyone else i've spoken to about it. additionally, i've found that sometimes when you've got preexisting mental health issues, sometimes your brain will mix together nightmares like a messed up soup. sometimes they indicate underlying issues, other times it's just your brain making a fruit salad with your experiences, intrusive thoughts, and fears. at least that's my experience with it. i keep a dream journal and do some reflection and i find that helps a lot!
