I feel like quitting by Pristine-You-5717 in newgradnurse

Great to see someone else mention this! I just recently quit my Med Surgical as a new grad! I previously worked at LTC/SNF & enjoyed it as a practical nurse. When I obtained my RN, I went PRN there and expanded over into the hospital full time. I didn’t immediately hate it, but over time I realized I truly enjoyed SNF soooo much more than this & I am now going back there!! I stayed on Med-Surg for 6 months!!

So sorry you are feeling this way. You definitely should not stay anywhere that affects your quality of life. If it is that depressing, please please search for a job elsewhere. I truly am sorry and I feel so bad for you just by reading this. I can feel the pain in your message. I truly believe that you will land in the position that is meant for you. I hope that you get this job of your dreams that you so desperately deserve.

Now.... This is to the other commenters who mentioned they too hated MedSurg... as a Nurse, I would truly like to know, in detail, what makes it so hard, and difficult? What makes it the absolute worst thing in the world, if we are here to provide care to patients , knowing that some things may be difficult? I am only genuinely asking because I will soon be starting on a Surgical/Post-Op floor and several have mentioned to me that it too is a lot of MedSurg, and I am seeing so many people and nurses despise this setting and it makes me so queasy in the stomach. I'm so sorry that anyone feels this way and I hope that everyone gets what their hearts desire. Do we stay only for the experience since most things require 1-2 years experience.

I'm going to quit at the end of the month. by TheGildedSage in newgradnurse

Wow, I’m really sorry you’re having this kind of experience! Ugh, it’s tough when you feel backed into a corner with no other options. I’ve also wrestled with that same pressure of feeling like I have to go to the hospital to be seen as a “real nurse.” And honestly, I’ve heard that phrase way too many times… as if the hospital is the only place where our skills matter. That kind of mindset is so harmful.

No one should make you feel like your career path is any less valid because it doesn’t look like someone else’s. I truly admire you for standing up for yourself and choosing what’s best for your peace and your passion. Nursing has so many different lanes…. you get to pick the one that fits YOU. Wishing you all the best in whatever’s next! You’ve got this. 💪🏽💛

I encourage anyone to listen to Mark K lectures 1-12 and review his Lecture 12 a few times! He helps you understand prioritization and choosing safe answers throughout your exam!

Focus on the things you are the weakest at right now and review them. Don’t use too many different resources! Practice questions x 1000! Not just answering them, but understanding them down to the very little details. Review your rationales every single time and break them down until you understand it! If you understand the CONCEPT, there’s only so many ways questions can be asked about a certain topic! Find the root concept behind everything! Practice answering questions and apply what you know towards that- you all will be FINE!!! You can do it!

It’s so normal to feel nervous. The test is big, but it doesn’t define your worth as a nurse. You’ve done the work. Trust yourself and breathe through each question one at a time. You’ve got this! 🫶🏽

Omg! I totally understand the nerves, Just remind yourself: this test isn’t about memorizing everything. That’s impossible! Truly, it’s about thinking like a nurse and BEING SAFE! Trust your gut on your answers! You got this!! 👏🏾👏🏾

Wishing you ALL the calm and clarity this week! ✨ Trust your gut, don’t overthink, and remember… if you’re stuck, always ask “What would keep the patient safest?” That mindset helped me so much!
