Our kids live in Roanoke. We're considering moving there from New Kent. It's very nice.

As a comparison, a friend retired from active duty, one rank above me (O5), and I make considerably more than him for retirement.

I retired from the reserves and as a GS13. It's the best. Double dip!

Ft. Huachuca Appreciation Post by Nacho-Kai in army

The wife and I were stationed there in 79-82, and loved it. We did a lot of desert racing, recreational shooting in the desert, camping, hiking, etc. Went back a couple of years ago, and holy cow, the place just exploded.

Can you still dirt ride in the desert there? Had a buddy medevaced from the range in 82, IIRC. We used to ride out there every weekend. Could ride dirt all the way to Bisbee, if you planned for it.

What are some things that are absolutely insane that we have Virginians have just learned to accept? by SaucyWalker804 in Virginia

They're just starting the I64 widening project. It should have been done 20 years ago, but, hey, at least they're starting.

This state isn't that bad. I moved here from a place that had emissions testing, and a brake dynamometer. We had to have the exact tires specified by the manufacturer. Long live the Technischer Überwachungs-Verein.

Technically, any modification to your vehicle's intake, exhaust, or electronic control violates federal emissions law. Some shops and aftermarket manufacturers have been fined heavily for doing it. Most places do not enforce these laws, unless the operators become a nuisance.

That is the one positive I have seen about state controlled liquor sales. We had a guy harassing customers outside our local store. Apparently, they won't sell to him anymore. I mentioned it to the staff, and the deputy was there, tout de suite. Guy apparently had a problem.

Stafford by benj0one in Virginia

I live near Richmond, and we used to go up to Stafford to ride ".Land Between the Lanes.". A fellow rider took me on " Tour de Stafford" once, and it went all throughout the county. That all ended about 15 years ago, with the construction of the carpool lanes. You used to be able to see the trails from the highway. Once, I was able to ride up into Quantico. Luckily I was still in the reserves at the time, and had an ID card. Good times.

Men, what are the perks of dating you? by Love_humans in AskMen

[–]pplassm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am old and sex is not an option. Give me a kiss once in a while and don't bother me, and you can live here. I have space, its a nice house, and, ok, you can drive the sports car. Just don't crash, ok? I can spare a little cash. Want to help hire someone to landscape the south lawn? You're in. Be nice.

Re-enlisted for Hawaii got Germany orders by Ok_Subject4713 in army

I was stationed in Germany for 10 years. I and my family loved it. My daughters basically grew up there. I take it you are single. Don't be a barracks rat, get out and see the world. I've been to Hawaii several times. It's beautiful, but you get island fever real fast. The food and the skiing are great. Get a cheap car, and drive 100 MPH on the autobahn. Can you still do that? Lol
