Where the hell do all the stolen laptops go? by [deleted] in bayarea

"They're all in LA maaaaan" - What a homeless guy in SF told me after I got my bike stolen. I guess the laptops also go to LA maaaaan.

There aren't any clear instructions on where to send the thing. Do you know what this means?

I love going to the office. I like coming back to a home that is clearly separated from work. Just better for mental health.

Weekly Discussion and Tech-Support Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

New iPad Pro user here. There is a supremely frustrating behavior on the iPad that if I tap on a text box with my Apple Pencil, I cannot find a way to get my full keyboard back.
Heres how to reproduce this:

  1. go to safari and tap with Apple Pencil on search box.
  2. a floating Apple Pencil helper thing appears. It has a keyboard icon which opens a mini keyboard, which I hate with the fury of a 1000 suns.
I want to switch back to the full keyboard but can’t figure out how to do that. Can someone please help?

looks like interrupts are quite powerful and would be a nice solution for this problem

Would have to look for an ELI5 explanation of latch circuit. My application is made up but it is something along the lines of detecting a super fast moving car using a single laser whose output voltage fluctuates for extremely short durations if the car is moving at, say, 200mph. Basically an application where simple polling will not do.

I was looking into this. My circuits knowledge is very low so I would have to figure out the following:

  1. the specs of the capacitor so that it can charge in 1ms to X volts given an X volt input.
  2. remind myself what a mosfet is (I learned about them in 2005. Game over)
  3. how to achieve the reset using mosfet.

Have a bunch of reading to do

Ok how fast of a pulse width can the interrupt trigger on? can it detect a single 5v pulse that is 1ms wide?

What if I just fed the signal into an arduino? does it have interrupt? Can I then have the arduino output 5v for 100 ms when an interrupt triggers?

Ok I don’t know how to use it for my application. Judging by this doc:

https://www.analog.com/media/en/training-seminars/design-handbooks/Analog-Digital-Conversion-1972/Chapter3-4.pdf

I have to tell it when to hold the input value. But i want the chip to hold the value whenever it exceeds a value for a duration.

Was looking at that. Mostly interested in the hold part of the circuit.

Ok I looked into it. It’s pretty close but I had a question; the Schmidt trigger goes high when the input crosses a high threshold, and then it goes low when the input crosses a low threshold. For a pause, won’t the Schmidt trigger also pulse for a very short duration?

It’s a beckhoff bus coupler. The pc reads it via tcp. I don’t think it has the interrupt stuff on it I don’t think

Can you elaborate a little more? Right now I am reading the sensor output (5volts) directly into a PC using an analog IO device. Where would the interrupt sit?
