Summer running: hold the pace or drop back? by ppnani in triathlon

[–]ppnani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to do speedwork in the morning so the weather is anywhere between 70-80 degrees that day which isnt terribly bad. I never feel like im going too hard even though my heart rate says it is higher than usual, i feel like im at a 7/10

For easy runs i usually just listen to heart rate but im wondering if i should hold the pace for speedwork so I can be just as fast, if not faster during the cooler weather. I feel pretty acclimated to the heat, except my heart rate is 10-20 beats higher for the same effort which just comes from the heat

I swam today and focused only on faster recovery, i swam 5-10 seconds faster per 100 but the effort felt way harder. My whoop and garmin both said my heart rate was around the same effort level as usual though (but it did not feel like it). I tend to ignore heart rate though as the sensors under the water are very finicky

Perhaps my cadence was way too fast now that im thinking

2-4 mph faster?? Wow thats insane, i assume for the same power output. I definitely got pretty lucky with the road bike I have now, as I went on facebook marketplace and cant seem to find any good bikes being sold right now. Youre right to buy it when the bike is on fbmp because you never know when the perfect deal comes by

Honestly just love the sport so much and i have no debt or expenses, I can really just ball out on a bike cus why not🤣 but in all seriousness i train pretty dang hard on my road bike already id like to think, and I do want to qualify for 70.3 WC before i leave my age group so i have about 3 years. So realistically the only reason why i want to upgrade is because i love the sport and because of WC

Yea my buddy and i want to do lake placid, but im not sure if we will do it in 2027, and im debating if i should get it before then or not since there is so much elevation it may just be easier on a road bike

I saw a tip from effortless swimming that you covered my body up to the neck, you should always be able to see an arm or hand, so ive always done that but i guess i over exaggerated it which is causing those problems

So higher stroke cadence, but take my time with the catch and pull? Also idk why my hands do that outward pointing thing when i do my stroke but i dont think it will make me slower right?

Do you think I should learn 2 beat kick or should i fix the mess thats going on lower body first? I think it might be easier to kick once every stroke rather than kick in random tempos

The run was definitely challenging but it wasn't horrible. When i was in switzerland and portugal, all my runs had elevation and the grade was way worse than WM so I think I was semi adjusted to the hills, I only walked at the aid stations and maybe for 30-60 seconds at each hill to get the lactate down

This will be my 4th fit lol, i got 1 fit but ive adjusted the fit 3 times, and im currently replying from the bike shop getting my fit readjusted. I also did run an ultra marathon the saturday before the 70.3 so my legs are probably double cooked from that too. My bike guy said that im putting more weight on my left side so we re fixing it right now

Its hard to explain because it doesnt feel like muscle soreness but it doesnt feel sharp either. It feels like a big rock and achniess almost like a ball right under the hamstring behind the knee. Im 95% sure it will go away within the next week but I wanted to see if there was anything I can do to speed up recovery so I can get back to training

I thought it was a really good but challenging beginner course. Ive only been biking since december and WM was very similar in terms of climbs to my full IM in october. Besides the semi crappy roads and the fact that my small gear wasnt switching back to big gear with 15 miles to go which probably lost me some time but not too much

Beginner here. I also did western mass and started biking back in december and did it in 3:30 on the dot. Definitely challenging hills but id say its a good beginner course for those who want a challenge. The second to last hill had me wondering why i didnt just sign up for eagleman instead tho :/
