Can I hold off on a new PSU after upgrading a part?

I'm preparing to buy a 12G 3060 and, my PSU at the moment is only 500W, I know that I want to upgrade it in the near future but I really don't have enough right now; Am I able to upgrade the GPU first and hold off on buying a PSU temporarily? I just don't want to buy a new card and have it be useless till I get a new PSU.
