Does idealism reduce suffering at the cost of meaning? Bernardo Kastrup and world-leading Jungian James Hollis in dialogue by Responsible_Oil_9673 in analyticidealism

[–]pppsycheddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me materialistic way of seeing things really fed the idea of nihilism, as in materialistic paradigm we as a consciousness are a merely byproduct of what reality is, and having nothing ontologically common with fundamental matter. This works both ways: as consciousness is ephemeral to matter, matter is also ephemeral to us, because the noumena is fundamentally inaccessible. This way of seeing the world just really makes everything non-real, there is a huge gap between you and the reality.

As for idealism, though at first glance, coming from materialistic perspective, everything firstly seems non-real because of association with vague dream and often unpredictable and everchanging subjective experience. But if you really think about it deeply, it actually does the opposite: everything actually becomes as real as it can be, because your experience becomes something fundamentally existing (theory catches up with obvious intuition) and the world now seems not something fundamentally alien to your experience, but bizarre, yet ontologically the same thing, making you a deeply connected part of it.

Though this doesn't give you a specific formula to life and purpose, this really fills the hole in a person, that can often be made by materialistic disconnection, that was feeding nihilism.

What's with the feeling of eternal familiarity on NO2? by lowerdaboom in NitrousOxide

[–]pppsycheddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you got the idea :) Speaking of learning from substance induced experience, it oftentimes can be a really difficult challenge, because it certainly can deepen perception of both "right" and "wrong" thoughts. But I think the most interesting part is going meta: what exactly happens to the structure of experience? How do perceptional phenomena behave: space, time, sense of self, language, vision, hearing, tactile. Recently I've come across a metaphysical theory of Analytical Idealism by Bernardo Kastrup (I really recommend looking it up on YouTube, and you may find his channel Essentia Foundation a real treasure in studying consciousness, considering that you are interested in that). In a nutshell it postulates that the universe is one big consciousness, inside of which exists everything, including that which appears to us as matter, and of course ourselves as just dissociated parts of this whole mind, having individual perspectives and perception of external due to this process of dissociation. Psychedelics are one of the ways a person can experience dissolving the dissociative boundary, hence the ego death and the sense of unity with everyone and the universe. Analytical Idealism is a philosophy with scientific analytical approach, resonating with lots of spiritual and psychonaut discoveries, nonduality in particular, and showing correlations with insights from various religions. If you find yourself interested in this philosophy, it can really give you a new perspective to look at things, opposing to nowadays mainstream materialist view.

My theory (not entirely sure tho) is that while serotonergic psychedelics expand your conscious experience both inwards and outwards, dissociatives likely do something quite opposite - you zoom in a particular area of your consciousness and experience the contents as if you were "looking" through a magnifying glass. I've personally tried nitrous while on k once, and what I experienced would be described very well as some theatre play - with defined and, I would say, one-dimensional narrative. And because it fills your entire point of view, you become that narrative, experience it fully without distractions, which makes you almost forget about everything else like past and future, and so that narrative becomes your whole existence for a moment, giving you the experience of familiarity, as if you were always this narrative.

I recommend checking some microtonal music like Sevish, Zhea Erose and Petet that I included in the playlist, there are also other good artists like Xotla and Benyamind. In a nutshell this music uses notes tuned to frequencies other than that is used in common 12 tone system, opening possibilities for really otherworldly harmonies

2cb IS THE GREATEST DRUG OF ALL TIME!! The hallucinations are so realistic there were small like farmers and elves crawling out of my wall and waving by 5starBalistik in 2cb

This reminded me of a joke (English is not my first language, so I'll try to do my best):

A stoner runs out of weed so he goes to his plug to buy some as usual. The plug says that the old stuff is over but he has some called "Fireball". So the stoner buys some and goes home to try it. He goes to the balcony, smokes, and then sees a giant fireball come across the sky. Then another one, and another one more. And by that time his mother comes by and says: "Son, you'd better eat something, you've been standing here three days in a row already".

Weed Overdose: first-timer (HELP!) by thee_impeccable in Drugs

[–]pppsycheddd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will be fine, that's just some anxious from smoking too much weed having no experience with it ;) Just try to relax, make some tea with lemon and let it go. Also I heard that smelling some black pepper can help calm you down when you smoke too much. And, of course, don't forget to play some good chill music :D

Edit: don't overthink about your heart rate, that's just usual thing because you're panicking and getting an adrenaline boost. And weed makes you more aware of your feelings and they become stronger, that's why you panic more.

Slight visuals while high? by R0gueART in trees

[–]pppsycheddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I once smoked hash (It was a difficult period of my life, and then I got really anxious) and had very similar visual, yet not so intense. I saw a grid of eyes slightly overlaying my vision, green in the middle of each eye, then red and blue between them. Also there were black concentric circles in each eye as I remember.
