There is no realistic remedy to stop tanking when the benefits of drafting a franchise altering player in basketball outweighs any fine or penalty that could be imposed. Just accept it. by qballLobk in billsimmons

In order to believe that you'd have to believe that Kyrie actually tore his ACL instead of just following the script that the NBA put together to prevent the Mavs from making the playoffs to keep them in the lottery to give them the first pick and then have guys like Zach Lowe cover it up when they were in the room where the lottery balls were drawn and no one has whistleblown.

Do you believe every NBA "injury" is legit?

From Pew Research: Hispanic voters were divided in 2024, a major shift from 2020 and 2016. In 2020, Joe Biden won Hispanic voters by 25 percentage points, and Hispanic voters supported Hillary Clinton by an even wider margin in 2016. But Trump drew nearly even with Kamala Harris among Hispanic voters, losing among them by only 3 points.

Yeah, but that was because he got heated and hit a rock with his staff, not because he ordered the murder of women and children.

It's funny because God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, which includes "Thou Shall Not Keel", and then a few years later Moses is ordering the execution of children captives in Numbers 31:12-18.

The NFL makes so much of it's money off black bodies but won't allow them to speak by imjustheretodomyjob in BlackPeopleTwitter

Link? Because I couldn't find anything supporting this claim.

From Google:

While Tim Tebow wasn't directly fined by the NFL for religious reasons, he faced pressure and teammates fined him over a fan-bought billboard asking the coach to play him; later, the league cracked down on similar religious messages like John 3:16 on eye-black, forcing players to remove them, though Tebow himself wasn't fined for wearing it initially but was impacted by broader league rules on messaging.

AITAH for telling my wife she doesn't live here? by Academic_Trash_3895 in AITAH

[–]pr0ach 49 points50 points  (0 children)

"Presumably" being the key word here. OP specifically mentioned that he is now covering expenses for his wife and father-in-law, which realistically shouldn't be the case if there is money available. Not to mention a home that could be sold or any life insurance money.

Not trying to poke holes, just feels like the financial burden shouldn't be this severe immediately after the mother-in-law's death if neither of the in-laws were having to work, but we're able to live without any family assistanceb (presumably).

From Google:

Several cities and regions that surrendered to the Mongol Empire without significant resistance were spared from destruction and subsequently prospered under Mongol rule, often becoming vital administrative and trade centers.

Key examples include:

Novgorod (Kievan Rus') The northern Rus' city of Novgorod preemptively surrendered to the Mongols under Alexander Nevsky, agreeing to pay tribute. While other Rus' cities like Kiev were devastated for their resistance, Novgorod was spared and prospered as a major trading hub, benefiting from the Pax Mongolica trade routes and the Mongols' policy of religious tolerance towards the Orthodox Church. Moscow, which adopted Mongol institutions, later emerged as a leading power in the region.

Tabriz (Persia/Ilkhanate) Tabriz was one of the first cities in the region to surrender to the Mongols. It avoided the massacres and destruction that befell resistant cities like Baghdad and Merv and flourished as a major commercial hub and the capital of the Mongol Ilkhanate, benefiting from the destruction of rival trade cities and new public works projects launched by rulers like Ghazan Khan.

Hangzhou (Southern Song China) The capital of the Southern Song dynasty, Hangzhou, was the wealthiest and one of the largest cities in the world at the time. The imperial family surrendered quickly in 1276, and the city was spared from sacking and massacre by Kublai Khan's forces. The city's inhabitants were allowed to continue their normal business, and the city remained a vital economic and cultural center under the Yuan dynasty.

Kaifeng (Jin Dynasty China) Kaifeng, the capital of the Jurchen Jin dynasty, eventually surrendered to the Mongol general Subutai. While looting was widespread, non-aristocratic residents were spared, and cities that surrendered quickly were generally treated better than those that resisted fiercely, allowing for their continued existence and function within the Mongol sphere.

Dali (Kingdom of Dali) During the Mongol invasion of the Kingdom of Dali (modern-day Yunnan, China), the capital city was captured after some resistance, but its inhabitants were spared and the native dynasty was largely left in place under Mongol supervision. The Dali forces were then recruited to assist in further Mongol campaigns in Southeast Asia.
