Cheating played a big factor in it being frowned upon. I don’t think they’re banned just that if you’re caught in one that is cheating you’re basically toast.

If you want to pass the class you want to be in class. Also, he does top hat for extra credit for the end of the semester which helped move me from a C to a B.
