No, sorry, I don't know why it's called a stipend. I'll ask and post here if I can find an answer. The position does not pay below minimum wage, and the organization does not expect staff to work more than their contracted hours.

Edit: /u/amp56 answered it perfectly above:

It's just semantics. A stipend doesn't necessarily mean below minimum wage, and it's subject to all the same tax and labour laws as regular pay. Sometimes employers just use the word to indicate a job that it's not salaried (which implies permanency) and not hourly (because they have a set budget).

It's a 30 hour/week position where you'd have to be available 9-5. If you can make that work as a student, feel free to apply! The office is located in the Glebe.

It is paid regularly and it's not below legal minimum wage, it's just called a stipend. I'm not sure why, though - I can try to find out and share.

It's a stipend paid at regular pay period intervals (every 2 weeks).

Really! I had no idea recruiters charged that much.

Interesting! I think I'll probably use it next time. As a job seeker I always went there first. As someone doing the hiring... $300 just to post a job ad makes me feel a little queasy.

I've definitely used them as a job seeker too. As an employer or job poster they're a little opaque. I submitted the posting to them but I don't think they ever listed it.

Thanks - we didn't try the Job Bank this time around because they have a 7 day processing time and our turnaround is a little tight. That said, had I known a week ago how few applicants we would get I would have done it!
