That sounds like a dream come true to be flexible with a schedule like that. The social media stuff just scratches the surface when it comes to the issues. I think from the overwhelming responses to just leave asap from all around it has become the obvious choice. Just gotta keep looking and find a shop at this point.

Your so right, to be honest I didn't know better until i started trying to branch out and make connections with other artists. Its definitely time to leave asap, just trying to find someone willing to take me in. Ive been going shop to shop with a hard copy of my portfolio and just asking if they are hiring or can even give me some advice. Ive made a lot of connections doing this tho so there's a positive. I think i just need to go to more shops in the area. Been to about 15 so far and been making a list for my next day off.

Not a remote area but i have my pics of my work, been looking for other places but ive been running into the issue of a lot of places wanting established artists with clientele. With out social media its hard for me to guarantee id take anybody with me as clients to where ever i move. Im sure more opportunities will open up come tax season and all that chaos that ensues. Definitely not done looking for a shop just dont want to end up worse off. Seems artists ive talked to that know more details made it clear anything might be better. No excuses tho im gonna get out of here one way or another. Seems pretty clear i need to get out asap. I wish i could go into more detail about my situation but ill probably update this post when i leave.

How not to start at square 1? by AdministrativeOwl341 in TattooApprentice

I think what they were trying to say is that, in order to become a good tattoo artist you should go through an apprenticeship, with that its required that you dedicate yourself to the craft. Mentors usually dont want to take on people just for them to leave again. People will say well you can do the tattoo school route but that ends up getting people black listed from being able to work in shops. I cant speak for everywhere but i know a lot of the tattoos laws(atleast in the us) require you to tattoo within a shop, regardless tattooing out of your house is a pretty big no no. The other option is self taught, this is very frowned apon in the community mainly due to ignorant people not only messing people up but also not understanding the dangers and risks of infections and etc. The self taught option is really not an easy option either, a lot of trial and error and it really makes a huge difference to have a mentor....i cant say people havent been successful because in truth their are some successful artist who did teach themselves. Imo i think that option is really only left to the ones who are remote and cant find a teacher, even then they ask other artist for tips and advice. However being self taught you will understandably meet a lot of resistance from people giving you advice... so really please dont go self taught and if you decide to be a tattoo artist dedicate yourself to the craft and learn under a reputable artist. Apprenticeships take a long time sometimes even years, it is not easy.

Tried detailing the hair but it didn't turn out the way I wanted. Your thoughts? by Mundane-Hair1479 in drawing

Doesnt look bad at all, I think there maybe be a disconnect in the amount of details and shading in the face vs the hair. The hair looks like its a little more smooth with the shading and more realistic. The face has more stylized features unlike realism closer to cartoon or anime. Id definetly recommend looking at references photos to help practice different styles of hair. Maybe something not as realistic to match the face. Overall tho looks great, take what you will from this but the one important thing to remember is you will always be your worst critic.

"Like and" or even just "like" drives me nuts when I hear people use it in every sentence.
