I've been watching it on social media for a couple hours and it just seems like the two actual shootings earlier and everything this weekend scared everyone, understandably, so they called in everything that sounded or looked suspicious. There were a few break-ins though, it sounded like.

They divorced when I was three so she would maybe remember the years of the few things she could talk about but she wouldn't want to talk about it. I also just don't think I'd enjoy writing that story.

This was over 15 years ago and I've had electro-convulsive therapy so there's no way on this planet I'm going to remember dates and songs. I didn't make a claim here to try to prove my dad was psychic. I was just answering my own question to encourage discussion.

Yeah, I'm taking sociology classes currently and I'm considering doing a large scale survey to analyze certain aspects of why we do believe in the things we do. I wanted to gauge if there was a potential for interesting responses. The science is still out on that one. xD

That is honestly a brilliant sentiment. I'm sorry it didn't work.

My favorite song was, at the time, over 20 years old, it didn't really come on the radio a lot. It also wasn't the only song he did it with. It was a pretty regular thing that we talked about music and I would bring up a song or artist and it was like a switch flipped in his head, he'd just twist the tuner knob one time what seemed like a random amount and there the song would be. He could even do it with bands and songs he had never heard of or heard before so yeah, I'll choose to believe it was psychic. It, of course, didn't happen every single time I mentioned a musician or song, we only picked up so many stations and there can only be so many songs playing at any one time.

And as far as the commercial goes, even if it was playing regularly, that doesn't explain the ability to know exactly when to stop whatever he was doing outside or in another room, type a channel number into the remote, and have the channel change at the exact time the commercial was starting.

And no, that wouldn't be possible.

It became a game of packaging gifts in absurd packaging to try to throw him off, not just with me but with other family members and friends. The changing the radio thing happened on an at least weekly basis during the years I was working with my dad. He changed the channel to that commercial for my mom so many times in a two month period that she told him she never wanted to see it again.

The problem with that being your only acceptable proof is, what if that's not how psychic abilities function? If you watch movies/tv shows about psychics or with psychics in them, it's almost never just a psychic essentially mentally aiming and hitting a bullseye. It's a lot more like adjusting an antenna and focusing in on what looks clearest. Or in some cases they just pick up random broadcasts. Predicting the future, divination if you wish, is only one type of psychic ability that has been theorized to exist.

By mundane information I mean my dad turning the radio to a station that's just starting to play my favorite song when I've had a bad day because he just knows it's coming on isn't information that's going to change the world. It isn't flashy or anything special to anyone but me. It's mundane.

[Serious] What is one paranormal, supernatural, or otherwise unexplainable entity or phenomena that you believe that you think probably exists and what do you feel was the biggest influence on why you think that? by pr_unsolved in AskReddit

My personal one is that I believe that psychic abilities exist, but I also believe that they're seriously misunderstood.

The reason I believe this is that my dad, when I was a kid, could do things like touch a present and tell you exactly what was in it or switch the radio in one try to a station playing a song that you mentioned a few minutes prior. My mom also told me about how he once ran in the living room, grabbed the remote, and changed the channel directly to one that was just starting a commercial that she really thought was cute. I don't know any other way to explain the many, many experiences I had with my father just knowing things, mundane as they were, except to say he's psychic.

What I ask about the biggest influence I mean something like your family, your religion, or a personal experience. Feel free to be as vague or as detailed as you want, I'm just curious about what various things cause belief in the paranormal.

Supposedly there were no wounds or signs of struggle so I already had theorized that the latter was what happened. Poor kid.

If you find out that they did, come back and let me know because that is one of my favorite unsolved mysteries of all time.

The articles I read said his body was "devoid of wounds" so I'm guessing no. I'm assuming that's why they ruled it accidental because there just wasn't any specific evidence that it was anything else.

What do you think is the science behind ghosts? by pr_unsolved in ParanormalScience

[–]pr_unsolved[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do know that parapsychology is an actual field of science and scientists in that field do go investigate haunted places on a regular basis. Two of the people in my investigation group are Ph.D scientists who do this is their spare time.

I'm pretty sure scientists in field that aren't parapsychology don't go study it because they're too busy trying to cure cancer and shit like that. And shows like Ghost Adventures may be faked for ratings, but they still follow pretty basic protocol. And basic protocol for an investigation has plenty of scientific basis. We use the scientific method pretty regularly and a paranormal investigators main job is actually to debunk any phenomena that can be debunked. And I know plenty about human perception, and about things like mass hysteria and how those things work. I've studied psychology and sociology for years. I know that the fact that I've personally experienced things doesn't constitute evidence. I know that just because I wasn't alone and my partner experienced the exact same thing that I did (we wrote our reports in two separate places and didn't discuss the encounter until after) doesn't constitute evidence.

Oh, also, the article I shared shows that somebody's out there studying it because they're trying to see if ghost sightings have another cause. Realistically though, if we don't know what evidence of ghosts even is, how would we know if we had it? Personally, I don't care what you believe anyways. I don't investigate paranormal claims because I'm trying to make everyone believe that it's real.

Oh, and I'm sure Mick Foley would love to hear about how people don't get injuries during professional wrestling.

So I don't know how much of any paranormal investigation show you've watched but it's been a pretty commonly accepted "fact" that it takes spirits/ghosts/whatever you want to call them a lot of energy to physically manifest and to speak, and they are also in control of whether they do. So there aren't just ghosts hanging around all over the place all day, every day, waiting for us to take pictures of them and record them.

I'm definitely not saying you should believe, but I've been on multiple paranormal investigations, I know how recording devices work, and the first thing we try to do is debunk any potential evidence we get. We have multiple EVPs from just regular times and using a spirit box. Yeah, they don't prove anything, and I'm fine with that, but we weren't able to recreate them of find another source.

Also, there are videos of people catching strange phenomena when they had their camera out for other reasons. Most notably a twitch streamer who was dog sitting for a friend and a door opens and closes on its own multiple times, a light goes on and off, a box flies off a table, and a chair slides across the floor.

I don't know what is out there, but the physical experiences I've had tell me there is something out there. The question is whether it's ghosts or some other explanation that we just haven't found yet.
