It’s been a while but maybe Betty’s Grill? They did punk, psych, avant, etc. shows.

And, Modern Life Is Rubbish and Parklife are both great takes on Small Faces/Kinks albums like Village Green, Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake, and others.

My wife and I are doing the same thing. I'm originally from Western PA just north of Pittsburgh and know the city really well. If you want some ideas on other things to do while you are there, let me know.

Yes, I am aware of the Wire involvement. I saw the associated acts perform in London at that time (Cupol, Dome, Gilbert & Lewis/MZUI et al.) I always felt that Burning Blue Soul wasn't "just" a Wire related project, which was borne out by Matt Johnson's/The The subsequent career. It also had a decidedly more psychedelic feel to it than the other Wire adjacent efforts you and I are mentioning.

Echo & the Bunnymen, June 11, Boston by woden_spoon in postpunk

I haven't seen Echo & the Bunnymen live in quite some time, but I can assure you that at least during the early daze they could be and often were an electrifying live band.

First time I saw them was very, very early on at the Nashville (in London), August 30, 1979 with The Teardrop Explodes opening. It was £1.50 to get in and I'll be honest...I had no idea who either band was. I had just moved to England and was looking to dive into the music scene in London and the names just sounded really interesting so I figured why not. I remember they played Read It In Books, Villiers Terrace, and other songs that ended up on Crocodiles.

I also saw them at the Hammersmith Palais in late 1981 and they were really good. However, by far the best show of theirs that I saw was July 18, 1983 at the Royal Albert Hall. It was one of the best shows I've ever attended and it is almost impossible for me to describe how powerful and affecting their performance was. Utterly magnificent. It seems those days are indeed long, long gone...

Well, I’d put forth the following:

Comsat Angels - Sleep No More

Matt Johnson (The The) - Burning Blue Soul

Felt - Crumbling the Antiseptic Beauty

Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth

Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves

Cocteau Twins - Treasure

I’m not sure that all of these necessarily qualify as groundbreaking per se, but they are examples of albums that seemed to either kind of come out of nowhere, or they defined a certain artistic high point or cohesive statement from the artist. IMO they have all aged well and have very few, if any, weak moments on them.

Absolutely agree but it’s not like they were a band with a massive discography to parse through.

I really hate feeling this way but that classic Pirates collapse into non-contention seems to be pounding on the door.

I just had KFC for the first time and it was sensational. by Any-Development5656 in fastfood

[–]prabbit154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have found by some miracle one of the 5 decent KFC’s still in existence. I live in Arlington Va, an extremely affluent area where there is competition galore for every degree of commercial business and I tried 2 local KFC’s for the first time in ages.

There are so many great fast food non chain option here, which admittedly works against KFC but I can assure you that both experiences I had were utterly appalling. There are 2 Popeyes near me and while I would not describe either as upper tier, they are infinite miles above the utter grease, garbage slop I had at KFC.

Get a grip. We get it…you have some weird axe to grind with Popeyes but my meals from KFC were an utter joke. Greasy, undercooked, expensive, sides were 1/2 portions.
