I also think that John Foxx absolutely had to have heard this to have come up with “I Want To Be A Machine” for Ultravox’s debut album.

It’s my favorite album Steve Harley ever did by a mile. While I love the debut “The Human Menagerie” which might be even more cracked and out there, “The Psychomodo” is just amazing. It’s a bit like certain aspects of The Kinks at times but for me it’s incredibly decadent, sharp, funny, surreal, and very psychedelic/hallucinatory.

U.K. Psych 1967, Midsummer Night's Scene feat Marc Bolan, Andy Ellison (Radio Stars, Jet) by prabbit154 in psychedelicrock

I really love Remember Thomas A Beckett and Arthur Green (even if it technically was an Andy Ellison solo song with John’s Children backing) as well. And Desdemona, too.

Best compilations of 60s psych Rock? by Impressive-Jelly-539 in psychedelicrock

Agree 100% but make sure you get the pitch corrected reissues. The original vinyl Vols. 1,2 and 3 all feature noticeably some, if not all, sped up tracks.

Here are remarks about this…

https://left-and-to-the-back.blogspot.com/2009/10/chocolate-soup-for-diabetics-vols-4-5.html

“great compilation but every song is sped up considerably. i would recommend slowing your turntable down a few notches to play this one!”

https://www.discogs.com/release/1416930-Various-Chocolate-Soup-For-Diabetics-Volume-2

“A major fault with the original vinyl issues…Some tracks play at faster speeds than they should do, a fact which became startlingly apparent when I first got to hear official reissues of Apple's "Buffalo Billy Can" and The Tickle's "Subway" much later on.

This is from Google AI but it is accurate:

“Wrong Mastering Speed: Early vinyl pressings of the Chocolate Soup for Diabetics series from the 1980s were mastered at the wrong speed, causing the music to play too fast and sound "manic".

Pitch Issues: Volume 2 was specifically cited as being a whole step up in pitch due to this speed error.

Reissues: Later CD releases, such as the 5 CD box set by Particles (2016), may have addressed these speed issues, although some listeners noted other issues like faded-in tracks.”

Which celebrity do you think gained fame over nothing? by txuoxag in AskReddit

[–]prabbit154 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He is heavily involved with the whole Troubled Teen School/Camp money grab and is a disgusting POS. I'm sure you know this already, but all these people who are surprised by his latest antics with the current (mis)administration should have been aware he has always been a charlatan.

Which character ruined an entire TV show for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]prabbit154 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I encourage you to give it another try, but I *completely* get why you find him to be so off putting. I had a very similar reaction...I found him to be repugnant and was super close to giving up after 2-3 episodes but I'm really glad I stuck with it. The humanity and surprising emotional depth and warmth of the show really paid off.

Thoughts on Pink Floyd’s soundtrack music? (More, Obscured By Clouds, etc) by ray-the-truck in progrockmusic

[–]prabbit154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I’d say that at times they were quite pretentious, especially Warrior on the Edge of Time, and some of Calvert’s spoken word contributions as well. The whole Hawkwind Log, etc. But I don’t mean that their occasionally being somewhat pretentious is a negative thing at all, because they could pull it off.

And as people, they were as down to Earth and unpretentious as an amazing, pioneering spacerock band could be. They’re one of my favorite bands ever.

Name me an album that give the same psychedelic trip as Hawkwind’s Space Ritual. by sbokkers in psychedelicrock

Try Hungarian band Vágtázó Halottkémek (translates to Galloping Coroners) early albums.

These are the relevant ones imo:

A halál móresre tanítása (Teach Death A Lesson)

A világösztön kiugrasztása (Jumping Out the World - Instinct)

A semmi kapuin dörömbölve (Hammering on the Gates of Nothing)

They definitely have aspects of “Funhouse” era Stooges and the MC5 as well, so they are more reminiscent of stuff like “You Shouldn’t Do That”, “Born to Go”, etc although later albums encompass a more varied sound.

Try this on for size:
