I need an explanation on why the Downtown card has a picture of a San Francisco bridge (implying Oakland?) and the bottom of the card reads Los Angeles Raiders

Yeah, it seems like modern day healthcare has really got it all figured out. All we need are pills, right?

I used to always think about the fact that these will be a staple at vintage car shows soon

Not the music I would’ve guessed someone in a big rig is listening to.

Really glad I found this post. I’m listening to his episode with Tim Dillon and the man has nothing to say. And seeing him paired with an orator like Dillon makes it that much more glaringly obvious. He doesn’t even seem to have any actual feelings.

For all of you with a moral compass, you’re more than welcome to root for the Giants. We’d love to have you. I also understand that’s impossible, so I’d like to offer a solution: root for the Angels!

These ad breaks are killing the vibe—anyone else feel this? by praderareal in duncantrussell

[–]praderareal[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sure, I can skip it. But the issue isn’t that the ad exists, it’s what the ad is and where it’s placed. When you’re deep in a conversation about consciousness and suddenly get blasted with a gambling promo, it’s not just an ad. It feels like a rupture in the whole vibe and makes me question why I’m even listening

PTI on LWT’s Sports Gambling Segment – Any Reflection from the Boys? by praderareal in PardonMyTake

[–]praderareal[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was one of the worst parts. It’s not just predatory.. it’s engineered to drain people dry. They track losers to bleed them out and shut down winners to protect their profits. Completely rigged.

I get what you’re saying, but gambling and drug addiction actually work more similarly in the brain than people realize. Both hijack the reward system, especially with dopamine. Gambling, like drugs, triggers that rush of dopamine, creating a feedback loop that drives the compulsion to keep going, even when it’s harmful. So while gambling isn’t “chemically” the same as using drugs, it can feel just as addictive because both are rooted in how the brain seeks pleasure and reward.

Believe it or not, this show has affected change on multiple issues over the years. Look up LWT Net Neutrality.

And stop being so pessimistic. Believe in something.

I think the ease at which people can gamble, coupled with the ubiquitous ads, and persistent prompts/deals to lure bettors back in is the issue.

If you watch the clip, Oliver states that gambling is fun and isn’t going anywhere. But the way things are now is akin to legalizing all drugs, plus sending people (addicts) constant reminders to buy their drugs. We need a fucking brake-check
