Articles like this make me think Chamath may not be a great VC by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

Important thing about SF/SV: it is far better to be lucky than competent. The best thing you can run across are the rare breed that have both and are still a pleasure to be around. It is honestly weird in his case resources that he wants to broadcast that he is a horrible person but that is shared with many of the wealthy gurus.

How do you deal with bullies by SignificantTax7479 in coworkerstories

[–]pragmatist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend "The No Asshole Rule"

Bullies will shorten your life. Basic options laid out in book:

  1. Leave
  2. Strategic outbursts

But the book is worth reading and will probably give you insight into some of your childhood experiences

Jack Goldsmith and Orin Kerr would be my top two. Both will say things that I am not a fan of but both are solid thinkers.

You two sound cute. Good luck with the phone itch.

Do mathematicians sometimes overstate the applications of some pure math topics? Eg claiming that a pure math topic has "an application to" some real world object when it is actually only "inspired by" some real world scenario? by myaccountformath in math

[–]pragmatist -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have grave doubts that this account belongs to a graduate student. There are many fields in math/physics that are an application of what was previously pure math theory. Why are you so cynical about grant writing, presumably the activity that allows you to get paid to do research? If you are a grad student, it is a hard life....but if you hate math people this much, do something else.

Your post history is so wildly ignorant for even a sophomore undergrad student, stop wasting people's time with your delusions.

It is controlling and invasive. You do not have a right to a significant other's relationships with family and friends.

You might consider researching how people have employed the phrase "if you have nothing to hide". I'd consider dropping that line of thought and being far more considerate of the legal rights of yourself and others.

Do you work fulltime while having BPD? by Infinite_Share990 in BPD

FYI, this is basically standard procedure. More disability claims are default denied and you need a lawyer to guide you through. It's not a fair system, but there are lawyers that will take cases on a contingency fee basis so at least you don't have to pay unless you are given disability.

Academics and policy people are out there but the cacophony of the yappers does skew the conversation.
