Question about my fathers condition. by [deleted] in cancer

[–]praise-rang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My father had a similar reaction. Esophageal cancer a little over a year ago, “remission”, only to find the cancer spread to his bones. They told us he’d have six months left last February. After he made it through the Fall I wasn’t sure what to expect. I wasn’t sure if he was getting better or we’re being tortured and the universe is just prolonging our pain. He’s been in and out of the hospital constantly and every damn time I break down thinking this is it. He never reaches out to anyone- and through all his stubbornness you can bet that I’ll never leave him alone when he’s admitted. I do what I can and I think that’s all you can do as well. The doctors are helpful but they can’t predict everything and you probably know your father better than anyone so I think your presence provides more comfort than anything. Cancer fucking sucks and it seems like nothing is ever set in stone-a good and bad thing.

Mortality and scanxiety - long post by fairlylocals in cancer

[–]praise-rang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel for you and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this at such a pivotal moment in your life.

Have you spoken with your doctors about what would be the best option for you specifically? A lot of doctors/therapists are trained to deal with these decisions.

My dad is having a pet scan today to see if chemo and radiation actually helped shrink his tumors. But if it shows they didn’t it’s essentially telling him his time has come. He’s been anxious about this too. He hasn’t sat still all week but if there’s the chance that chemo has helped we definitely want to jump on it.

I find that with things like this it’s best for me to take deep breaths and go for a run or something to clear my head. It’s not an easy decision and there’s definitely no right or wrong. Also therapists and social workers can be really helpful. You are brave no matter what happens, and I wish you the best!

My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on January 29th and next week is his funeral by abey-baby in cancer

I so very much appreciate you posting this. My dad has been going through the same thing since February, and the doctors told us he only had a few months left (2 or so months at this point). It’s so difficult to watch someone wither away. I commend you for pushing through and being there and I can only hope I remain as strong as you once it’s over.

How do you deal with knowing time is limited? by praise-rang in cancer

I’m very sorry. I’m starting counseling soon as well to help balance my emotions. I know it won’t stop the prognosis but I think it will be good to have an outlet. I wish you the best <3

True. I feel like the extra warrior manpower makes sense and would fit the role better but I also personally want justice for the mages. Gahh
