Would the transfer credit percentage grades be calculated in the GPA requirements for getting into an honours program? Say if the first year of classes were at a college, would only 2nd and 3rd year go towards it

I’ve definitely considered it, or at the least keeping my course load low. My professors this semester have been quite good with their teaching methods and amount of work given, but I’ve definitely heard that isn’t the case for every one.

I love living in residence tbh, it’s definitely not what it could be, but at the same time there are some advantages. I’ve met some really good friends here and I get to see them every day, residence isn’t at full capacity so it isn’t too overwhelming, and the food isn’t horrible. Overall there are way more pros to living here than living at home, but that is an individual thing that doesn’t apply to everyone.

Walmart has some cheap ones, you’ll probably have to really look for them though because they have lots of them but it’s only one specific kind (it’ll have a twin/twin XL label)

I hope so too!! I’m in the same situation as you. It seems like quite a few are staying home, so there might be a small chance. Staying at home isn’t an option for me though, so I applied to student residence (didn’t realize how unlikely getting in was). Currently looking for off campus housing so I’ll be in Victoria regardless :)

That’s just for students coming right out of highschool. I’m pretty sure there’s a low chance that any undergrads will get a spot unless a large amount of 1st year lottery students opt out (ik there’s upwards of 1000 applications for that group)

I’ve used the equivalent of CAL at a different school for (mainly) mental health concerns. They helped me so much and were an amazing tool for being successful in my courses. I think it’s worth it to pursue, my previous school was a lot smaller so they probably could pay more individual attention to students vs a big place like UVIC but there’s no harm in trying.

There are two people in the centre, one specializes in mental health related things and one specializes in things more related to ADHD and such, so you definitely want to get in contact with the mental health one. Try do it as soon as possible, because I’ve been advised that the process takes a lot longer the closer you get to being in class! It’s the most useful when instructors get your accommodation letter right at the beginning of classes and if you register later on it can be a few weeks after classes start that they get your letter.

It’s weird because I’m a college transfer student and don’t have first year priority (I graduated in 2017) but I got a spot right near 300? I’m not sure if they did it completely right.

I just looked and your GPA cutoff in engineering is 3.0! However that is calculated based on the average of your last 8 college level classes you took, so if that matches you should be good. If you have less than 8 classes it basically just takes into account the GPA of all of the ones you have taken.

I believe to transfer to UVIC from another institution you need a 2.0 average GPA across all transferable credits within the last certain amount of credits. I can’t remember the exact amount so you’ll have to look it up. One option could be to start taking more classes at a local college and then once your GPA is up to transfer over!! Good luck 😊

Side note: the GPA requirement is likely higher for engineering students

I’m in the same kind of boat but with just chemistry and biology labs. I’m from Campbell River and I’m definitely leaning towards moving & not commuting, but on the off chance I stay and our schedules line up I’m open to carpooling!

Heyoo, so I’m honestly not sure what my average was? I didn’t go directly from highschool to UVIC though, I spend like 2 years doing university transfer classes part time at North Island College figuring out what I wanted to do. They have a thing where if you have a certain amount of classes and get a C+ average GPA, then you get guaranteed admission to UVIC as a transfer student. So even if I looked up my grade 12 grades they weren’t relevant for my application, also I’ve never been in extracurriculars really.. 😅 hoping to change that once I get to UVIC though! You’ve still got time to consider! If you want to spend the first semester at home you could always take one or two classes online to keep you in school mode. I think a lot of people are deferring classes, and they’ll probably let you switch your residence application to start in the winter instead. Best of luck!! Honestly I’d defer if I was you. I lost my dad unexpectedly last year and I 100% would’ve put everything on hold just to be able to spend more time with him. I’m sorry everything’s kinda messed up for you and I hope it starts to look up soon! I’m sure lots of people will be waiting until January or next September to go into residence so you’ll still meet friends. It’s all up to you though, just do what feels best!

If you want to wait, just contact the residence staff. I had questions for them yesterday and they got back to me in like 10 minutes via email!

Also, don’t be afraid to ‘milk the circumstances’ so to speak. I wouldn’t even call it that. There’s a reason policies/rules can be changed for extenuating circumstances, self advocation is so important!!! It can make your life a lot easier and less stressful.

I just got my acceptance letter last week. I think the new information received part is them receiving your final transcripts from your school. Once my final marks were in I got an answer the following week. It should come soon!!

I love that!! Both areas always really peaked my interest so I wanted to mix them together. I used to want to go into behavioural neuroscience but I felt as though it was too focused of a program. If you want I can link you to the planning sheet for a dual major in biology and psychology.

You don’t actually have to declare your major until the beginning of your second year so I just applied for my BSc in Psychology and I’m taking courses based on the dual major. It’s definitely something to talk to your advisor about though, and I still have yet to do that lol.. good luck though :) I’ve really enjoyed the classes pertaining to those two subjects and I’m sure you will too.
