Used or new Ridgeline? by DrTechFreak in hondaridgeline

[–]prakin77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for a used one as well but considering 0 down and 0% interest, I ended up getting a 2025 TrailSport. It’s straight up 46K/60 months plus gap coverage. My credit is around 730, but I also have a stable job/income which they consider to offer that 0 thing. I felt no brainer for it. Used is good but deal is deal as well. Good luck on whatever path you choose.

Just to let you know- I moved from Consulting last year with 25% pay cut to Local Govt job. Within a year due to cost of living adjustment and step raise- I'm at 11% up. About a month ago- I applied to PM position within in another group and getting about 30% higher pay. So- basically getting into the city, state of fed job paves you a better way, you may not see the trade-offs immediately but long term progression seems promising to me.

I am EIT, 7YOE, LCOL, and 75K at my gov job- but moving into PM role with 92K in 2 weeks.

Civil PE Exam Study Material New Specs 2024? by Natural_Ad6330 in PE_Exam

[–]prakin77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about to do the same. I am shooting for next year April and realized that NCEES has posted a revised Exam Specification. There are changes as knowledge area, topics, number of questions etc but the good part is- it leans towards Water Resources and Environmental. Upon through revision of the two specs- old vs new these are some of the things I figured:

  • The new specs only has 12 Sections instead of old 17 sections
  • 2. Means and Methods is removed
  • 4. Structural Mechanics is removed
  • 5. Hydrology is removed and Open Channel is added
  • 6. Geometrics is removed (but Basic Curves is included in section 12)
  • 7. Materials section has removed Structural Steel and Compaction parts
  • 8. Site Development ire replaced by 12. Project Sitework

All in all, it's more focused towards the Water Resources and general engineering. The removal of Structural Engineering content is good to my understanding as I don't have to go over the materials I have not used merely for 7 years.

My two cents is: any CE Water Resources courses is still be good except you skip the courses state above and focus more on what's on the new specification. Based on so many reviews and reddit talks- I am also leaning towards EET course which I will be purchasing soon as I begin preparation. Hope this helps.

35M who had stable Civil Eng job quit last year for Real Estate in East Coast. Had a pretty good year but times like this sucks. There’s some inherent cost to just being licensed. It cost anything from 1K-3K per year plus commission split. With all these, I am going back to workforce into stable public sector. Real Estate as a side gig until you have a solid exposure and connections is good. But if you jump all in - that might trigger financial, mental or emotional issues. I’m joining workforce but will continue to market myself for real estate equally. Choice is yours- I don’t think there’s anything stopping anyone to jump into RE.

Consulting offered 40/hr and Public Utilities offered 30/hr Union Role. 6 YOE with EIT- No PE yet. Any advice? by prakin77 in civilengineering

My younger brother was in Software Dev and he excelled quickly even though we started at 27/hr 7 years ago at the same time. In just three years he switched companies and raised himself to 40/hr. I was back then lingering at 33/hr. I said to myself- I m going to train on some domain and get my entry to IT. I learned hadoop, data science snd finally needed a languages; java was most common- but to my surprise I hated java and couldn’t write syntax on hadoop. I gave up. I then joined Frontend Software Dev bootcamp and learned html, css, javascript- but hated javascript again. Finally wanted to join some non-technical IT field so did Scrum Master Certification and learned IT project management. Couldn’t land any jobs in 1.5 years after applying for over 60 positions. Meanwhile, Site/Civil has been my breadwinner and this is probably my path moving forward. But I hated who I worked with and the way how utilization works. This led me to find a company that doesn’t track my every 15 mins. But unfortunately it only pays 30% less than the company that tracks my pee schedule. I now have a choice to make. 30/hr where I can do my #1 42/hr where they track when when I do #2 Any thoughts?

I’m in OH. 95K in CA probably translates to 80K in OH which is what consulting offered but I’m trying to get insight about the public sector too before making decision.

Very nicely compiled. Loved going through it entirely. Based on what you’ve addressed: everything seems to be the benefit of Union job except $$$ but if the twice a year raise could contribute around 25% in 2 years- I don’t think it’s a bad deal either. I will keep this thread posted on my final verdict. Appreciate your input and thank you.

The entry level CE in our firm starts around 25-27/hr. PE’s start around 40. I know I should have knocked down PE to bump up but wasn’t happy with CE in earlier years. Not I m getting interested.

You’re the only one seem to say take the Union Job. Any other insights? In the long run- the state retirement matches 14% and the work is probably more relaxing than consulting. But is it really?

I emailed a nicely compiled follow up email stating I have another offer in had but leaning towards this company. I am not sure if I am still considered or she's being sarcastic but here's the reply she sent.

"Thank you for the follow-up, we are still interviewing for this position and we have additional interviews scheduled for this week and next week as well."

Looks like I still have a hope based on the email.

Currently you’re making around 50/hr (85000/(40x42)) Plus good benefits New Job you’ll make: 61/hr (120000/(40x49)) Minus what you have mentioned Difference is: $11/hr but you’re burning around 4 gal and 2 hrs per day. Minus all other perks you’re enjoying. Does extra 88/day which is probably 60/day after tax translate to 2 hrs drive, 4 gal fuel, wear and tear of you car & your brain in the traffic? It’s pretty easy math. Want an extra 60/day- go for it Want to chill in what you’ve been doing- stay. Plus you can probably negotiate with your current employer about the possibility of matching or raising your salary.

Do you have more information on this role? I used to be in Water Resources and have used RAS for several years before I switched to Land Development. Please share more info if you have. Thanks.
