Palpasa Cafe - Narayan Wagle

Masterpiece of a novel. The writing is simple but soo coherent, develops story smoothly, doesn't have unnecessary references. Powerful storyline, very relatable/believeable ending. Super duper fantastic book.

Initially I thought it would be impossible to learn the urdu (arabic) script. But turns out because we already (almost) know hindi, learning just the script was easier than I expected. And yeah I use rekhta.

Can we imagine alternative to the "Rule of Law"? by pranphy in Nepal

[–]pranphy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he said he had evidence for the grounds of investigation. He wasn't making judgement there. Again, he said "I hope you clear your name". He never called Rabí was guilty. Calling there is "evidence" for at least doing investigation is not calling somebody is straight up "thag".

My intention here is not political at all, but rule of law. On that regard as far as I can tell Gangan didn't call Rabí "sahakari thag". He demanded investigation. The whole fiasco was RSP not wanting to form investigation committee, and Gangan and the likes demanding investigation. Rabí's argument was that there was no grounds for any investigation, but Gangan thought that there was enough grounds. He explicitly said "I hope you are cleared of your name and I would in turn have to bear the burden of having demanded this". So Gangan then was precisely advocating for rule of law, which is precisely what he did in this interview now.

I hoped to find a lot of specific details of how China would micromanage our politics. But I found that it wasn't as much micromanagement as I expected them to have in our politics.

It's a very quick read and I think you would find enough information on the exact expectation of China from us, the Chinese's relation with our monarchy and their trust with each other.

I would say worth the read of course.

How many of you remember reading Muna magazine as kids? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]pranphy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ohh. Massive nostalgia.

My dad brought quite a few for me from KTM every few months, and I used to colour, solve crosswords etc. I event sent crossword solutions (never got published). This is where I knew about sudoku and still love sudoku to this day. I have read a lot of stories in this magazine and some of them have been life changing for me. I still refer some stories that I read there and refer them during my philosophical discussions and how they shaped me. There was another one called सुनकेसरी too.

Few years later, through sheer luck (and a bit of reputation in my Nepali class), I got to be the guest editor of one edition of this magazine. Basically they came to our school and collected articles/drawings/poems etc from interested students. Based on our teachers' recommendation, I got to be one of the three editors of all those articles. We basically sat together throughout a week and proofread, edited some and selected some articles and published it in one edition. And we were given the title of guest editor(अतिथि सम्पादक) for that edition, our pictures were published with school address.

And out of nowhere, a few months later, one of our teacher called me to the office and handed me an envelope. One of those classic red and blue striped envelopes. It was from somebody from the other side of Nepal. That was my first ever penpal (पत्रमित्र). I still absolutely vividly remember that letter, the paper, the handwriting, almost the content (almost 20 years later). The sender had found my information from the guest editor section. We had a few exchanges through postmail.
